Here we have the truth about the freedom and democracy that the US brought to Iraq. From the very start they set out to crush independent trade unions. Full text at link.

It is only in comic books and Hollywood movies that America's superheroes exist to defend the underdog. In practice, the armies of America have fanned out around the globe to show they are the willing servants of the corporate overdog. As Noam Chomsky writes in his book “Imperial Ambitions”(Metropolitan), “You can almost predict (U.S.) policy by that simple principle: Does it help rich people or does it help the general population? And from that you can virtually deduce what's going to happen.” There is no more disgraceful example than Iraq. ... read full story / add a comment

As the current world economic crisis deepens, the role and meaning of art in society changes as more and more people are dragged down by the weight of personal debt, unemployment and poverty. Galleries close and less people can afford to buy art creating a new awareness among artists of the fragility of the art market and the economic system behind it that creates an increasingly alienated and elitist exclusivism. ... read full story / add a comment

This report outlines how the currency wars now taking place represent another phase in the breakdown of the capitalist system.

Since the huge jolt to the capitalist system back in late 2008, nothing has been fixed and the internal contradictions and conflicts still exist and now the system stumbles forward into new crisis. As Leon Trotsky in the founding program of the Fourth International written in 1938: “The bourgeoisie itself,” he wrote, “sees no way out … it now toboggans with closed eyes toward an economic and military catastrophe.” ... read full story / add a comment

Policing of 'noborder camp' in Brussels violates basic civil rights

from http://www.statewatch.org/news/2010/oct/01brussels-nobo...r.htm

The Brussels noborder camp has been met with high levels of police action. Around 300 camp participants were stopped from attending the European trade union demonstration ( http://www.etuc.org/a/7407) against the austerity measures currently implemented by governments as a result of the financial crisis, that took place on 29 September, by simply being arrested under 'preventative' policing laws. ... read full story / add a comment

Post-9/11, Washington sponsored four coup d'etats. Two succeeded - most recently in Honduras in 2009 against Manuel Zelaya, and in Haiti in 2004 deposing Jean-Bertrand Aristide. Two others failed - in Venezuela in 2002 against Hugo Chavez, and on September 30 in Ecuador against Rafael Correa - so far. Two by Bush, two by Obama with plenty of time for more mischief before November 2012. ... read full story / add a comment

One Red Flag

One red flag, one red flag
Just one red flag can keep the spark within our hearts still burning
We will not sag, nor will we lag
We will not sag nor will we lag we're not for turniing

(Chorus)
So let's make hay, while May Day shines
While May Day shines the workers spines are not for breaking
And while May Day shines we'll always find
While May Day shines we'll always find there's hay for making.

The worker's song can keep us strong
The workers song can keep us strong our day is dawning
And when it dawns we'll right the wrongs
When it dawns we'll right the wrongs for we are longing.

The earth the moon we'll have them soon
The earth the moon we'll have them soon maybe tomorrow
And when that blossom blooms we'll rid the gloom
When that blossom blooms we'll rid the gloom, the grief and sorrow.

(repeat chorus)

One red flag, one red flag, one red flag......fade.

Wirtland (www.wirtland.com), an internet community which considers itself a micronation, invented a new way to generate funds to help small developing countries. The following outline of Wirtland's project is from "Wirtland Institute" - an experimental think-tank established to study new forms of statehood, which became possible in 21th century thanks to new information technologies. In today's world millions of dollars are being spent by people playing games in virtual worlds. Wirtland shows how part of this money may be channeled to help poor third world countries. ... read full story / add a comment
