This is an article by a Tehran doctor who has witnessed the real number of people killed and wounde iby Islamic militias and police. Full article at link. I have been working in a public hospital in Tehran over the last few weeks. The authorities are covering up the number of dead protesters and their causes of death. In this article Yassamine analyses the nature of the ongoing demonstrations. She points out that only conspiracy theorists belive that the protests were organised from outside Iran. She shows hoe thw actions of the working class are crucial at this conjuncture and finally she says that all sanctions against Iran must be opposed. Full article at url. A politics.ie poster has retrieved the text of a House of Lords debate from Hansard in which Kinnock says the guarantees are not legally binding. The whole yes camp are caught with trousers down by their ankles! Here's what she said: "Those guarantees do not change the Lisbon treaty; the European Council conclusions are very clear on them. The Lisbon treaty, as debated and decided by our Parliament, will not be changed and, on the basis of these guarantees, Ireland will proceed to have a second referendum in October." This is the story of an 18 year old protester who was arrested, beaten and raped. It more than just a description of brutsality, this story gets to the heart of the matter. Full story at the url. His shoulder blades and arms were wounded. There were some slashes on the face. No bone fractures, but he was bruised all over the body. I wanted to take some photos but he did not let me. The doctor said only four of his teeth were intact, the rest were broken. You could hardly understand what he said. Then the doctor told me what had happened. That is my experience as a Protestant victim of institutional neglect. Like all sufferers, I am a victim of prejudice. It was prejudice that forced my mother into the Bethany Home in Orwell Road, Rathgar in 1941 for the “social sin” (as one cleric put it) of being pregnant out of wedlock. To add to her burden, her gestating baby had a Catholic father. Minister for the Environment, John Gormley, advertised a public process in December to review Ireland's Tentative List of UNESCO sites. The aim was to submit this list, including the Hill of Tara, to UNESCO at their World Heritage Committee meeting in Seville, Spain. That didn't happen. Dave Kenny asks 'why?' The island of Martinique is in the Carribean sea where reggae, voodoo, rum & hurricanes come from. It is also an integral part of France and as such its map appears on Euro bank notes at the bottom in a little insert. Four months ago the people of Martinique and neighbouring Gaudelope paralysed their local economies with strike actions, civil unrest, general un-mellowness and all round anti-Sarkozy attitude. This was in no small part due to their extraordinarily high levels of unemployment compared to the rest of France.
