The Limerick branch of the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign held a protest against the Israeli murder of humanitarian aid workers on Saturday 5th June in Arthur’s Quay Park. On Sunday 27th December the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign erected a memorial tree in Limerick city centre to mark the first anniversary of Israel’s genocidal assault on Gaza last winter, The names of the 1415 people who were killed during the 22 day assault were printed on colour-coded cards for the public to attach to the tree - blue for men, pink for women and white cards for the over 300 children killed. A detailed list of the names, addresses, gender, ages, and occupation of those murdered was displayed on large laminated sheets for the public to study and see for themselves the fact that the overwhelming majority of the victims were innocent civilians. ... read full story / add a comment

On Thursday, just after 10.30am, Limerick’s Congolese community along with Irish friends and supporters marched from Arthur’s Quay in the city centre, up O’Connell St., to O’Connell Avenue. There, a memorandum to the Irish Government and the International Community was read, calling their attention to the ongoing tragedy taking place in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Limerick City Council claim signs erected by the Lisbon Campaign for Middle East Justice and Peace (LCMEJP) were an "incitement" The Council removed at least 5 large "No to Lisbon" referendum signs from locations around the city between the 26th May and the 11th June without informing anyone. Gardai in Henry st., Roxboro and Mary St. stations have been investigating this matter for over four weeks. The story was covered in the Limerick Leader two weeks in a row and in the Limerick Independent and the Irish Times but Council officials never thought it appropriate to contact the Gardai, LCMEJP or the printers event though contact details were on the signs. ... read full story / add a comment

The Atlantic Homecare outlet on Childers Road, Limerick that earlier this year removed all Israeli produce from its shelves (in response to a protest by the IPSC) now appears to be redoubling its effort to sell as much Israeli made Keter produce as possible to unsuspecting customers. In what appears to be a clear attempt to at least distract, if not completely mislead customers, they have a large poster on a Keter shed with the slogan "Irish Owned - make it Irish make it Atlantic ..." ... read full story / add a comment

Members of the Limerick branch of the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign mounted a picket outside the new Woodie's DIY outlet on the Ennis Road, Limerick on Sunday afternoon. A leaked report for the government and HSE contains plans to close down A&E services in St.John’s, Nenagh and Ennis hospitals. If introduced these cuts will put peoples lives at risk throughout the Mid-west region. These plans must be fought by patients, communities and the trade unions. The report by the firm ‘Teamwork’ will be published in the next few weeks and if it is implemented it will further clog up A&E at the Regional hospital and leave thousands of people in Clare and Tipperary hours away from emergency services.
