news report
Tuesday October 09, 2007 00:30 by John Lannon
Day of Action in City Centre, Saturday 8 October. Shoppers, residents and day visitors to Limerick city centre responded enthusiastically to a call for support for the peaceful protests of the Burmese people on Saturday 8th October. An information stand erected at the intersection of O'Connell St. and Thomas St. had a steady stream of people anxious to sign letters of protest, and to find out more about the situation in the state of Myanmar (Burma). On Saturday October 8th, members of Amnesty International (Limerick Group) and others called on the people of Limerick to support the peaceful demands of the Burmese people for democracy and human rights. Hundreds of people signed letters calling on the State Peace and Development Council (SPDC) in Myanmar (Burma) to ensure that the people arrested there in the last few weeks are not subjected to torture or any other ill-treatment. The letters also urged the authorities to ensure that Burmese citizens are allowed to peacefully exercise the rights to freedom of expression, association and assembly without fear of harassment, intimidation or arbitrary detention, in line with international human rights standards. |

Gosh.
only one report mentioned tanks - they were seen moving south of Mandalay, no protesters were put down south of Mandalay. Of the many detailed reports from Rangoon (led in English language by Mark Canning the UK ambassador and his australian counterpart) none mentioned heavy artillery or jets. So......... are you guilty of putting two seperate things together merely to fan the flames of anti Chinese sentiment?
The UN called on India. You don't. Your very selective in your information & your blame. Yes - the Chinese supply that weaponry - No - that weaponry wasn't used to put down dissent. You didn't mention other hardware from Thailand & India. did you?
Everything helps the Burmese people - if it is true. If it is false, then you are merely adding to the mountain of thinly disguised hate whose roots are not the struggle of the Burmese but that of Western Capital.
Fact is though - you lied. Best as might have been your intentions or as respected as might be your sources you have engaged in disinformation. & that disinformation has immediate bearing on one of the main EU migrant ethnic groups & the room they have for advancing human & political development amongst one fifth of this planet's population. Were you trying to make it simple?
Foxnews & SkyTV do disinformation.
All you had to was come to the crises without prejudice & watch how it developed. You chose China as the enemy, yet oddly they did the most of any involved regional power to end the crises.
You ignored both India & Thailand & they both safeguarded their interests. Shame on you.
