The die has been cast. The Geek prime minister Tsipras, who won the elections because of his promise to make an end to Trojka austerity measures, has capitulated, accepting the hardest EU deal with Greece ever. Shame on him and his party Syriza, which has lost every credibility. It's a horrible betrayal of OXI, plunging the Greek people in still worse misery. The various programmes advanced by much of the radical left are lodged within the limits of capitalism. But it these very limits that the Greek financial crisis is manifesting. Leftists proposing the limits of capitalism to solve those very limits is a contradiction. ... read full story / add a comment

"Sir, In recent times we have witnessed the ousting of two democratically elected presidents. The Egyptian president Morsi was deposed in an army coup, which, strangely, was not regarded elsewhere as a coup. Little outside sympathy was shown towards the massacred and their families. ... read full story / add a comment

At a time when the Government is advancing the ridiculous proposition that the Irish State is "regaining its economic sovereignty" by leaving the Eurozone bailout, sensible people will be more concerned at the possibility of a Cypriot-style "bail-in" for the Irish banks, entailing confiscation of customer deposits over €100,000, as the euro-currency crisis continues and the planned EU "banking union" makes provision for such steps. The continuing Eurozone crisis was discussed at the EPAM conference in Athens, Greece, last weekend week. At this event representatives of organisations from different EU countries agreed on the vital need for the Eurozone States to re-establish their national currencies and work towards the dissolution of the Eurozone, which is destroying the democracy of the peoples and States that use the euro and wreaking economic destruction and social misery on country after country. Below for your information is a copy of the joint press statement that was issued after this conference on behalf of the participant organisations. It was signed by Anthony Coughlan on behalf of the above organisation. ... read full story / add a comment

Like lambs to the slaughter the Irish people ratified the Fiscal Stability treaty by a yes vote of 60.3%. Even members of the parties advocating the yes vote admitted fear and confusion were among the reasons why Irish people gave into the demands of the government. As they threw around buzz words such as stability, growth, investment and threatened a harsher budget if the treaty wasn’t ratified, it’s no surprise their school yard bully tactics won out. ... read full story / add a comment
