Mallojula Koteswara Rao, also known as Kishenji, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Maoist), was killed in a forest area of West Bengal on 24 November.

The authorities claimed that comrade Rao was killed in a firefight during an operation involving some 900 paramilitary troops and state police, including the Cobra commandos specially trained to fight the Maoist-led revolutionary movement based in the rural areas of central and eastern India. A party statement issued the next day said that he had been been arrested, tortured and murdered. ... read full story / add a comment

On November 4th the main leader of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, Army of the People (FARC-EP), Commander Alfonso Cano, was killed near Suárez, Cauca, in an operation of the Colombian government, with logistical and intelligence support provided by the USA. The small guerilla force of 14 people was hunted down by over 1,000 troops in a multitude of Arpía helicopters. The preceding months had also witnessed massive and indiscriminate bombardments in Tolima and Cauca, and a military blockade of the area, with disastrous consequences for the local population, thousands of whom were forcefully displaced. Former Minister for Defence Willie "The Kid" O Dea, today failed to answer questions put to him by the People's Association Watchdog in our weekly email to all TDs, Ministers and an Taoiseach, among the questions put to Wily Willie were "Will you stand up for the people or take the cushy favours of the financial industry? Are you afraid to stand up to the banking sector? Have you asked how much money they got to cover mortgages in the bailout? Are you willing to see the demise of your country when you can take a stand?". The Banks Robbery of the People of Ireland appears to be going totally unchallenged by Willie, I wonder are his constituents ignored and disregarded in this manner by this "Gentleman". Below is our latest (unedited) letter to the TDs Ministers and an Taoiseach and Willie O'Dea's unedited reply. ... read full story / add a comment
