Their names are John Kerr, former British ambassador to US and deputy chairman of Shell UK, also Jeroen Van der Veer, CEO Netherlands. Also present at this meeting were Irishman Dermot Gleeson who is or has been involved with Independent News Media, has recently resigned as Chairman of AIB and is chairman of UCC governing body since 2007 and another Irishman Peter Sutherland who is worth looking at on Wikipedia as someone who has his fingers in a lot of pies. A Guardian journalist, Charlie Skelton attempting to report on events was seriously followed and harassed over several days. ... read full story / add a comment

Available in four parts as a pretty high quality download here (for the first time I think):
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4
The film had a complicated gestation but heavily involved the majority of the original Indymedia Ireland gang. We came back from working with Indymedia Italy in Genoa all fired up and determined to start an Indymedia in Ireland. Almost five years ago that was now. The film traces the events of the three days of protests in detail and poses the question - Was it all a setup? If Seattle was 'Star Wars' then this is 'The Empire Strikes Back'. It is made from a combination of footage of the Genoa protests against the G8 shot by 10 members of IMC Ireland, material from the Italy IMC Archives and material from various other sources. This compelling footage combined with on the spot interviews and reenacted voiceover commentary and analysis from various websites which were active during the protests provides a in-depth blow by blow retelling of the story of the three days of the Genoa protests against the G8. The film will be available on DVD in the run-up to the fifth anniversary of the Genoa protests. Watch this space for details. ... read full story / add a comment

We are the mass. We make our regimes. the G8 do not lead the world. Yet their collective malpractise and tolerance to injustice compounds the poverty which their historical exploitation began. When there are empowering marches and actions against the state, history can be re-written quickly, especially by the Trotskyists to reflect that nothing would've been possible without their 'Leadership'. Fortunately, due to the March on Farmleigh being organised by the Dublin Grassroots and getting little or no support from the SWP, it is going to prove a little more difficult for them to claim any part in it. In fact less than 48 hours later the Party had issued a leflet condemning us, telling us to Get Organised, and calling us 'Maggie Thatcher's Children acting like capitalist consumers'. Oooh that hurts. It has all the hallmarks of Herr Kieran Allen in one of his parental lectures to the children of the revolution. In any case, this article describes the real involvement of the SWP in the Mayday events and will hopefully pre-empt any more of their attempts to re-write history which have already begun. ... read full story / add a comment
