Like lambs to the slaughter the Irish people ratified the Fiscal Stability treaty by a yes vote of 60.3%. Even members of the parties advocating the yes vote admitted fear and confusion were among the reasons why Irish people gave into the demands of the government. As they threw around buzz words such as stability, growth, investment and threatened a harsher budget if the treaty wasn’t ratified, it’s no surprise their school yard bully tactics won out. ... read full story / add a comment

There are fools who decry history as if it was irrelevant to the present or the future. Here is an extract from a piece my late father wrote in 1969 on the subject of the drive towards membership of the EEC, now the EU. Relevant? The Irish educational system is currently failing to provide equal chance, equal access and share to graduate employment opportunities with global employers in Ireland. There seems to be a cultural over-reliance on the English language in Irish society, a lack of awareness importance of being multi-lingual at an early age and language learning time in the classroom is spent on compulsory Irish.

The mass purging of 'tall poppies', the 'crushing and isolation' of those at the bottom of the social scale and terrible social outcomes for many children were seen as a consequence of the hegemonic ambitions of a bi-cultural bureaucratic elite wanting to ensure no bottom-up challenges to top-down control. ... read full story / add a comment

" God himself could not sink this ship!"

After the British Holocaust visited on Ireland in 1845 which cost the lives of millions( I use the word MILLIONS, carefully researched) of Irish lives, from 1848 to 1950 almost another six million people left Ireland. It has continued ever since, its called ethnic cleansing by some, forced emigration by others and "see another part of the world" by an Irish minister of the current fascist Government in Ireland. The result is that most of the real Irish are overseas and whats left on the small island today is a poor spiritless mostly imitation of anything Gaelic or free. ... read full story / add a comment
