Bóthar na Saoirse (The Road to Freedom) is a trilogy of documentaries on the lives of Dan Breen, Tom Barry and Ernie O’Malley, iconic hardline republicans from the War of Independence.

It begins on Wednesday on TG4 with My Fight For Irish Freedom, Scéal Dan Breen, the colourful and complex South Tipperary guerrilla who started the War of Independence at Soloheadbeg in 1919 on the day the First Dail sat in Dublin. Forced to flee Tipperary he joined Michael Collins’ hit squad in Dublin but then opposed the Treaty negotiated by Collins. Later he joined De Valera’s Fianna Fail and was the first anti-Treaty activist to enter Dail Eireann and take the oath of allegiance he had fought to abolish. ... read full story / add a comment

For several years now under the arrangements of the peace agreement in Ireland, the British intelligence service MI5, with its 500 strong agents in both its €35 million Hollywood headquarters in British Occupied Ireland and its subordinates in Dublin Castle, have run an army of spies, the PSNI and the Gardai in the South to police all of Ireland. Despite organizing several no warning car bombs, during the course of the troubles from Dublin to Belfast, that have murdered hundreds of people. They do so with the blessing of almost all of Ireland's politicians, from the three major parties in the south. ... read full story / add a comment

"Crossfire" killings are a euphemism for an execution. Acting as judge, jury and executioner, a government-appointed Star Chamber decides who should die for their so-called crimes against the interests of the ruling clique and then the order goes out to the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
The WikiLeaks cables show that the British government facilitates this execution squad—providing it with training, the exact nature of which, in light of the ongoing brutal behaviour of British forces and inhumane conduct in Iraq and Afghanistan, remains somewhat cloudy.
"The training of the Bangladeshi RAB members in the UK has been carried out by the West Mercia and Humberside police forces. The courses are approved by the British Association of Chief Police Officers." ... read full story / add a comment

NUIG academic staff are the first to be hit by a coordinated attack across the universities on staff conditions, notably academic freedom, tenure, flexible work and holiday entitlements. This attack is being spearheaded during the exam season when most staff are too busy to respond - and in the last days of the FF / GP government, no doubt on the calculation that they may not have political cover for this kind of attack post-election. ... read full story / add a comment

The bulk of the banksters money went to Fianna Fail for several election but the bulk of the corporate muck money, now flows from party to party, which includes Fine Gael and Labour. Either way the same targets are achieved, bigger profits for corporations. The sums of money thrown at these Irish politicians, particularly Fine Gael for the next election are mind boggling even by gombeen Fianna Fail standards.  ... read full story / add a comment

Fine Gael the main opposition party in the Irish state, is already flush with corporate and bankster muck money, well over €2 million, already, with just some of it coming in from its own gambling sources.Their long time partners with the dubious and misleading title of 'Labour' have already, more than a million, with big contributions also rolling in, via., the fat cat corrupt front of fake trade union leadership, along with the corporations and banks. ... read full story / add a comment
