On Monday (10th Sept) Members of Rossport Solidarity Camp and Shell to Sea, occupied the steps of Knockranny hotel, to show their outrage with Fine Gael TD’s for turning a blind eye to the plight of a small rural community at the hands of Shell’s tyrants.

Following yesterday's decision by the UK Court of Appeal that the proposed badger cull is legal it is imperative that we all work to try and stop this wildlife tragedy from happening; within a few weeks hundreds of badgers could be shot each night when they come out of their setts looking for food. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-19563661

The Irish Department of Health says it hopes to bring legislative proposals this year or early next year to enable cannabis-based medicine to be prescribed in the Irish free state. They should hurry up and save al lot of people an awful lot of pain. Experts have advised that Sativex contains a cannabis extract which “is a valid treatment option”. It took them awhile didn't it. like hundred years late maybe. "Sativex is used for the relief of symptoms of multiple sclerosis patients and other ailments. The plight of the Counihan-Sanchez family has got extensive coverage in the Irish Post and Irish world. Basically a family of seven is facing eviction onto the streets because Anthony, the father, inherited nine acres in Galway and Brent Council decided in January this year that this "capital asset" rendered then ineligible for Housing Benefit. The condemnation by Cllr Mac Donncha of the friends and family of Mr Alan Ryan, buried on Saturday 8th September following his brutal murder on the streets of Dublin on Monday 3rd September shows how low this former "republican party" have gone.

I am no supporter of the so-called "Reals" but it is morally disgraceful that SF attacked a community in mourniing.

On Friday, October 5th, a British military band are scheduled to play at the K Club in Co Kildare. The event has been co-organised by the the Security and Emergency Services Ireland Forum (SESIF) and The Jack and Jill Foundation, with the proceeds from the event being donated to the latter organisation. The SESIF is an organisation which purports to represent those who work in the 'ambulance, coast guard, fire, military, police, rescue and prisons' services. In reality much of its energies are devoted to rehabilitating the image of the paramilitary PSNI and the British Army in Ireland. Farcical charges ahead of an anti-internment March in Dublin, have been re-instated by the British against Marian Price again, creating further internment again by remand. Charges previously thrown out of court by a judge and dismissed against four people, including former hunger striker Marian Price have been re-instated by the Public Prosecution Service of British Occupied Ireland. Marian Price's lawyer said she was seriously ill and may not be fit to appear in court.The charges relate to a traditional Easter republican ceremony in Derry in April 2011. ... read full story / add a comment

From the 10th to 16th of August, Rossport Solidarity Camp hosted it's 3rd wind turbine building course. You can read a report of the first one here: http://www.indymedia.ie/article/95731. As the 3 previous turbines that were built are still going strong (and powering both the camp and camp house), this year it was decided to go for something bigger and more challenging. Teagasc has confirmed that it has already planted out Genetically Modified potatoes at its site in Co. Carlow – despite a period for legal challenges running to 25th October. The three month window opened after the trial received approval from the EPA in July.

After attending a workshop last Saturday by U.S. Iraq war veteran Logan Mehl-Laituri at the Greenbelt Festival/ England, I was informed that Joshua Casteel was in a very bad way with the cancer with which he has been struggling. On Sunday we learnt that Joshua had passed away.

This month we gladly announce a decline in Greyhound Racing.
Straight from the pages of the infamous online forum ‘Greyhound nuts’ an urgent appeal has gone out for entries to fill races.
There were calls for help last week from both Curraheen Park and Limerick Track as the respective Racing Offices bid to fill the following weekend’s competitions.

This week Shell have recommenced work, eager to get a move on after the whole TBM-in-a-ditch saga. The Tunnel Boring Machine is still in the Bellanaboy refinery and they haven't made an attempt to move it the last 2km to Aughoose yet. Most of the work seems to be laying a track down from the back of Bellanaboy along the proposed route of the pipeline.
