Russias Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov has fired a warning shot across NATOs bows regarding provocations as a pretext for an open military attack on Syria. Full text at link. The Russian Foreign Ministry has called on NATO and Middle East countries not to devise pretexts for military intervention in Syria. Russia has expressed concern that some provocation could occur at the Turkish-Syrian border that may give NATO the green light to intervene in Syria. "In our contacts with our partners both in NATO and in the region, including on international forums, we have called on them not to look for pretexts in order to carry out a [military] operation," Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov told reporters on Tuesday in Moscow. In such a scenario, NATO would be obliged to intervene in the conflict to defend Turkey, a NATO member. ... read full story / add a comment

A crazy man addressed the United Nations yesterday, he seemed to believe that Iran posed a nuclear threat to world peace. He appeared unaware of Israels possession of up to 400 nuclear warheads while Iran has zero. This crazie is threatening to plunge the Middle East into War. Full text at link. In a bellicose speech before the United Nations Thursday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu demanded a “red line” be placed on Iran’s nuclear enrichment program, outlining a plan of action that would lead to war next year, if not sooner. Employing a crude cartoon drawing of a bomb with a lit fuse, Netanyahu said that action to physically destroy Iran’s nuclear program would have to take place before the uranium enrichment process began its final stage, which he claimed would happen around the spring or summer of 2013. “The hour is getting late, very late,” he declared. ... read full story / add a comment

From The Irish Times , September 24 2012 Twelve months ago I gave a presentation on the subject of youth drug and alcohol abuse to the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children. I highlighted the huge pressures facing Ireland’s youth, including peer pressure, bullying, unemployment and emigration, all within a national atmosphere of despair over our collective future. I focused on the widespread culture of binge drinking in Ireland, which appears to be often ignored, accepted or normalised by many parents, publicans, politicians and law enforcers. ... read full story / add a comment

Two car bombs struck the Syrian Army’s command headquarters, setting one of the buildings on fire. No diplomacy from Obama, its election time, so its also time to threaten war against Iran.He ignores the fact that inspectors have found no evidence that Iran is developing nuclear weapons and of course he ignores Israels possession of 400 warheads. Full text at link. President Barack Obama postured before the United Nations Tuesday as the champion of peace and democracy, while threatening war against Iran and demanding a crackdown against the wave of anti-US demonstrations that have swept the Middle East. This, Obama’s fourth address to an opening session of the UN General Assembly since taking office in 2009, was saturated with hypocritical invocations of “American values” and lies about Washington’s actions on the world stage. ... read full story / add a comment

Journalist Neil Clark in an interview with RT speaks about how the US grip on the Arab world is crumbling. The US is reaping what it sowed when it overthrew Gaddfi. Full text and vid at link. RT: What's your assessment of who's behind the worst of this violence – does it seem heavily-orchestrated to you? Neil Clark: It does, actually. Remember the old saying, ‘You reap what you sow?’ The US is really reaping what it’s sowed. Let’s think back to February 2011. The US took part with NATO in the attack on Gaddafi’s Libya, bringing death and destruction. And they’ve created this violent situation. So while of course we condemn the attacks on the US consulate and the murder of Chris Stevens, we’ve got to put this in wider context. And this wouldn’t have happened had NATO not intervened last year. ... read full story / add a comment

Give youth a chance: real and radical change needed Mon, Aug 13, 2012 THE YOUNG people are at it again. They’re drinking, fighting, losing their religion, and causing havoc on the streets of Ireland. They have no respect, no manners, no get up and go. They’re mollycoddled, dossing on the dole, sunning themselves in Australia and only interested in sex, fun, Facebook and their phones. You’d think that Ireland’s young people were the scourge of the nation. Sadly that’s a common view shared by many and something that urgently needs to change. Yesterday was International Youth Day and the theme this year is “building a better world, partnering with youth”, a proposal that is in great need of consideration here in Ireland. ... read full story / add a comment

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov exposes the hypocrisy of Western nations in refusing to condemn terrorist bombings in Syria. Full text at link. The Security Council has always resolved that terrorism is unacceptable, Lavrov said. But for the first time, Western member-states deviated from this position after a bombing in Damascus killed several senior security officials, he said. According to Western nations, the bombing did not qualify as terrorism since the victims were the heads of power structures fighting against insurgents, Lavrov said, claiming he was dumbfounded by such an explanation. Lavrov urged other members of the Security Council to condemn not only the Sunday bombing in the conflict-wracked Syrian city of Aleppo, which killed 27 people and wounded dozens, “but also a series of terrorist attacks that happened the same day in Iraq.” ... read full story / add a comment

Its not just the WMD excuse that the Imperialists are using to advance their cause of War on Syria and the threat of war against Iran: the US et al are using the reactionary Sunni regimes and their co-thinkers throughout the Middle East and North Africa. Full text at link. In citing “weapons of mass destruction” as a pretext for waging war against Syria, the Obama administration is treading a well-worn path. When President Barack Obama threatened August 21 that the movement of chemical weapons inside Syria was a “red line” that could trigger US military intervention, he did nothing that was not pioneered by George W. Bush before the 2003 war against Iraq. Obama now has the backing of British Prime Minister David Cameron and, this week, France’s François Hollande. A SON of a war of independence veteran has accused a historian of publishing "untrue and unchecked claims" relating to a disputed IRA ambush in which his father participated 92 years ago. Edward "Ned" Young was the last known survivor of the Kilmichael ambush, when the IRA killed 17 police auxiliaries on November 28, 1920. His son John Young has described as "palpably untrue" assertions made by Dr Eve Morrison about a phone conversation he had with her last month. Morrison's claims appear to contradict an affidavit Young signed five years ago, in which he denied that his father co-operated with a controversial book about the ambush. ... read full story / add a comment |
