On April 20th 2010 the Office of the First and Deputy First Minister of the Northern Assembly released the consultation paper drawn up by the Assembly Working Party on Parading Issues. Do you think 'traditional rights' or 'cultural expressions' of sectarian domination that have been established through violence and corruption should be equated with basic human rights? Now is the time to share your views. ... read full story / add a comment

As the current Minister for Education Caitriona Ruane attempts to slash budgets, education staff and their families will be steeling themselves for yet another round of propaganda attacks from politicians (both nationalist and unionist camps), pseudo economists and representatives of special interest groups who the Minister can rely on to make the usual calls for cuts in bureaucracy and administration. ... read full story / add a comment

Our European Commissioner was ''doorstepped '' and asked about her current pension/s in the light of the waiver of pension entitlements in the case of a retiring banker ... With an overly hasty riposte she said to the reporter "That is a question that I have refused to comment on up to now and I continue to refuse to comment on it.'' The pique was palpable , and the affront visible .. she then canceled an arranged interview with RTE . ..but she is not alone .. and FG and Labour also have their formidable pension earners while still working.. and some ( teachers ) .. are they still blocking the appointment of a full time pensionable locum tenens ? - ''subs '' while they are in politics..and accruing more years for their teacher's pension also.. ... read full story / add a comment

The Curia has protected the Pope with a venal beguile The defence of their errant priests and bishops is to launch an attack of a tripartite nature ; the church as victim; the blame lies with the victims; the problem was one of incipient homosexuality . The three factors were advanced separately over the past 10 days by the pope and 2 different theologians . Not just ordinary Curia sycophants , but doctrinaire heavy hitters. ... read full story / add a comment

Having chatted recently to many other people on the left so as to try and gauge the possibility of the broadest ever coming together of a revolutionary left alliance on this island, it appears that we are going to miss the best opportunity in making the biggest electoral impact by the genuine left in years. Too many parties/groups seem to be carrying too much historical baggage about each other. This party won't work with that party for this reason....that party won't work with anyone for some other reason....that party can't be trusted because of past mistakes....sniping.....backbiting.....nitpicking........petty grudges.....personalities.....sectarianism......our view is the right one......we have more experience.... blah blah blah blah blah. The Catholic church has behaved like a cult in keeping women and children as second class human beings who were expected to obey the men of God without question. The influence of this church has infiltrated most Government agencies especially the legal system where once again women and children were often made homeless for refusing to put up with abuse and play happy families. ... read full story / add a comment

It is now time to form a new more left of centre Green Party as Traditional Green policies such as Climate Change, emissions reduction and renewable energy, while I agree with them are no longer enough. We don’t just want to save the planet. We want to make life so much better for the people living on it. The current Green Party has not delivered ( with the notable exception of power points for non currently existent electric cars!) and has no new ideas of any note whatsoever. They are no different than the other parties out there at the moment. ... read full story / add a comment

The 14 Raytheon accused are 9 women and 5 men, based in Derry, in the north of Ireland, who are facing criminal charges after they used Non Violent Direct Action to access the Raytheon Software plant in Derry, in an attempt to disarm the mainframe computer. Raytheon are the world's largest manufacturer of missiles and the world's fifth largest weapons manufacturer. Until they left in February 2010 (thanks to all the action taken against them), Raytheon's Derry software plant developed the firmware for transponders, targeting software and other crucial guidance system-related work for weapons.
