The Bord Pleannala oral hearing saga continued today in Bellmullet at the Broadhaven Bay Hotel, looking at the Compulsory Acquisition Orders of the present project application of the Shell Corrib Gas proposed estuary pipeline route, as well as various other aspects of the project. On Saturday 4th September Kate O’Sullivan, an activist from the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC), made a citizen’s arrest on former British Prime Minister Tony Blair at a book signing in Eason’s. At the protest outside Eason’s, where over 1,000 people gathered to protest the presence of Mr Blair in Ireland, at least three arrests of peaceful protesters where carried out, including that of a secondary school student. The Alliance for Animal Rights is horrified to hear that a well known RTE presenter Ella Mc Sweeney has had two ‘pet’ pigs she raised in her garden butchered for food. This person apparently an animal ‘welfarest ‘’ has been known for her stance against animal cruelty in the meat trade.
The pigs were kept by her at her Blackrock home for several months before they were butchered. She is pictured in a newspaper with her arms around the two innocent and gentle animals.
Yet again we stress the difference in using animals for to feed our taste buds as welfarests do, as opposed to respecting the rights of other non human sentient beings to share our planet.

We have urged our supporters to stress their disappointment at her actions.

The Irish Climate Camp will take place this year at Victoria Bridge, County Tyrone, from the 12th to the 16th of August. The camp is taking place in support of the local community and their opposition to the proposed new A5 – a project that will cost a lot of money, a lot of energy (carbon emissions) and really makes no logical sense since vehicle numbers using that route have decreased considerably over recent years. Climate camp Ireland is a group of individuals that believe in taking direct action to prepare for and mitigate the effects of climate change. The camp is open to anyone to attend, and will host numerous workshops on many aspects of climate change. read full story / add a comment

Instead of being "cannon fodder for the Russian masses on the German plains," Queen's shilling Irishmen can now engage in imperial conquest in Afghanistan.
