Science is showing that free speech is built into the brain, says Dr. Christopher Badcock. The latest insights from neuroscience suggest that the censorious are regressing to infantile cognition where no nuance is allowed.

The next peace vigil at Shannon Airport will take place on Sunday February 9th from 2pm to 3pm. The airport continues to be used as a U.S. military base, with the full support of the Irish government but not the Irish people. This month we are asking for a large turnout as a mark of solidarity with imprisoned peace activist Margaretta D'Arcy. Margaretta normally attends the monthly peace vigils at Shannon but she has been imprisoned by the State because she opposes the U.S. military use of the airport. read full story / add a comment

From the ZAD to Val Susa !
From Hambacher Forst to Square Taksim ?
Why not in your place ?

Resistance and Sabotage !

This call-out is motivated by
- the call-out of the NoTAV movement at Val di Susa in Italy
calling for a national day (22 02 2014) of mobilisation and action, each one in their area, city, environment.
- the call-out of the ZAD movement at Notre-dame-des-Landes in France
calling for a national manifestation in Nantes, France

This is a call-out for actions and manifestations on the 22 February 2014 !

A day of action and sabotage to abolish all those megalomaniacs, devastating projects with the illusions of a durable development, green capitalism, geo-engeenering !
A day of action and sabotage to regain our freedom and rights to take decisions about our own lives, our environment, our planet,( in a emancipated manner),
instead of those in position of global decision-making, who are using the flag of democracy to impose their society of totalitarian power.
A day of action and sabotage to bring to a halt the destructions and exploitation of entire species, the waste of tons of raw materials and natural resources
everyday, justified by the term ‘public interest’, while behind it there’s only money, profit and capital.
A day of action and in solidarity with all those who fight, and for all those that lost their freedom and especially all those that are oppressed or imprisoned as “terrorists” or as simple delinquents.
A day of action and convergence with all those struggles heading for a different world, where life and common values are worth more than money, competition and dominance.
No border ! No Nation ! No Pasaran ! No more BULLSHIT !

From the ZAD to Val Susa !
From Hambacher Forst to Square Taksim ?
From Calais to Lampedusa
Hambourg to Exarchia
From Heathrow to Atenco
From Valogne to Wendland
From Niscemi to Mayo

On the heels of the recent global outcry condemning the brutal and inhumane dolphin hunts in Taiji, Japan, Sea Shepherd Conservation Society is inviting supporters and all concerned individuals to join with us and our Sea Shepherd Cove Guardians in targeted demonstrations on February 14, 2014 against Taiji’s brutal capture and slaughter of dolphins.

On February 14, 2014, from 12 noon - 3pm. Sea Shepherd Ireland will be holding a gathering at the Embassy of Japan in DUBLIN to stand in solidarity with the Cove Guardians in demanding an end to the bloodshed in Taiji. Sea Shepherd invites anyone who cares about dolphins to join us for peaceful “World Love for Dolphins” gathering on Valentine’s Day to raise our voices for the dolphins. On a day meant to celebrate love, we will show Japan the love felt by the people of the world for dolphins.

“St. Valentine’s Day" is the perfect time to stand with Sea Shepherd Ireland at the Embassy of Japan and tell the Japanese government that the world holds dolphins very near and dear to our hearts and we will not tolerate this brutal slaughter by a small group of men who are dishonoring Japan to sell dolphins to the captive industry. We hope that you will turn out to show your love for dolphins and ask Japan to end the needless killing,” said Susan Hartland, Administrative Director, Sea Shepherd Conservation Society USA. read full story / add a comment

Last night's Super Bowl has had the unintended consequence of bringing the 9/11 terror attacks back into the forefront of the public mind. The controversy began several months ago, when Seattle Sea Hawks coach Pete Carroll began voicing doubts about the nonsensical, official 9/11 conspiracy theory pushed by the US government and mainstream media. Carroll put many of the official conspiracies incongruities and alternate theory's to a retired, four star General Peter Chiarelli, a former US army Chief of Staff.

The European Commission is changing the European Union’s plant legislation , apparently to enhance food safety across the continent. This move has sparked a heavy opposition from many, saying that the measure will threaten seed diversity and favour large agrochemical businesses. This new law creates new powers to classify and regulate all plant life anywhere in Europe. This would see cancer giving foods propping up the cancer medication business in Ireland

The “Plant Reproductive Material Law” regulates all plants. It contains restrictions on vegetables and woodland trees, as well as all other plants of any species. It will be illegal to grow, reproduce, or trade any vegetable seed or tree that has not been been tested and approved by the government, more specifically the “EU Plant Variety Agency.” [...] The new law basically puts the government in charge of all plants and seeds in Europe, and prevents home gardeners from growing their own plants from non-regulated seeds. If they did, they would now be considered criminals.

A recent Channel 4 documentary showed that a drone shot down in Sudan after taking part in several government operations against civilians and rebels contained a carburettor apparently made in Tillotson's Tralee plant.

The EU exports billions of euros' worth of weaponry and other military hardware every year. Below are details of these exports broken down by source and destination country, year, and type of goods.

Click on individual values to filter results. Link : http://www.caat.org.uk/resources/export-licences-eu/lic....html

Licensed goods: Arms export licence figures are provided for all EU countries. These cover items on the Military List (equipment that is definitely for military use) but do not include Dual-Use items (equipment that could be for military or civil use).

Exported goods: Most countries have also provided figures for the value of exported goods. Germany and the UK are notable exceptions.

Figures indicate known values and are inevitably incomplete due to the differences in reporting between countries. read full story / add a comment

After the Lockout Commemorations – Trade Union Organising in 2014 and Beyond - Saturday 25th January

13 Jan 2014
The Dún Laoghaire 1913 Commemorative Committee has announced details of a workshop/seminar entitled “After the Lockout commemorations - Trade Union Organising in 2014 and beyond” to be held in the Dún Laoghaire Club, Eblana Ave, Dún Laoghaire on Saturday 25th January from 2:30 – 5:30p.m.

The workshop/seminar is open to all – whether union member or not - and is intended as a forum in which people who are interested in organising in their workplaces and communities can share ideas and learn from each other. According to the organisers “The last 6 months have seen many events held to mark the centenary of the 1913 Lockout and the heroic battles waged by Dublin’s workers for union recognition. As the period of commemoration draws to a close, this workshop/seminar aims to bring together a number of people involved in on-the-ground organising today to look forward rather than back - to share skills, analyse problems and discuss the type of trade unionism that is needed 100 years after the Lockout battles.” read full story / add a comment
