EU Biomass Case Denied Access to The Courts Applicants considering appeal to end burning forest wood as renewable and carbon neutral In March 2019 applicants from six countries including the USA brought a claim stating that the EU’s 2018 Renewable Energy Directive (RED II) will devastate forests and increase greenhouse gas emissions by promoting burning forest wood as renewable and carbon neutral. On 11 May 2020 the EU Court published an order that the applicants who have brought this case, including individuals and groups from Estonia, France, Ireland, Romania and Slovakia, do not have legal standing and that it will not therefore make a decision on whether or not the biomass provisions of RED II should be annulled. read full story / add a comment

Everyone is using Zoom these days from work conference calls to family chats and quizzes. It's the new shiny star of the Corona-virus era. It is a godsend to save us. Well it turns out it isn't. It's encryption is not true encryption and it just uses TLS which allows the Zoom corporation to intercept and decrypt video chats and other data. TLS is also used by WhatsApp which is owned by Microsoft, so that allows Microsoft to easily mine all the messages from the 1.5 billion or so users. This report on Zoom comes from the UK Tech Industry well known website TheReigster. Even though the report is from early April it is unlikely most people have been made aware of the full extent of the scandal. Since then Zoom have no doubt fixed some of the glaring security holes but it is highly likely they not want to stop getting the data they had access to, so it would be reasonable to assume they are still getting it by backdoor means and not transmitting it encrypted so that it will be far harder to uncover read full story / add a comment

For weeks, talking heads have been promoting the liability-free vaccine(s) that will save the world—so Bill Gates and Tony Fauci proclaim—from what Gates has now dubbed “Pandemic I.” As Microsoft News peddles self-congratulatory stories about the Gates Foundation’s reorientation of its priorities to devote “‘total attention’ to the pandemic,” Fauci—making the rounds of talk shows—pledges that a vaccine will make its debut in January 2021. Not to be outdone, the White House has now unveiled “Operation Warp Speed”—a joint pharmaceutical-government-military effort aimed at “substantially shrinking the development time for a vaccine”—and President Trump promises one by the end of the year. read full story / add a comment

Throughout Europe some sanity is beginning to prevail once again although all the governments everywhere are keen to continue the myth that this virus is more dangerous than the actual numbers suggest. They are therefore imposing ridiculous and costly measures on businesses and social life. Ireland as usual tries to be "the best in the class" or in reality most sheepish and is imposing the greatest burden by being the slowest. But lets cut to the chase. Ireland has a big pharmaceutical businesses here that want to cash in bigtime and push the vaccines as some kind of magic solution. To impress them, the government has played along with the farce and deliberately talked up the number of deaths and at the same time down the number of cases. This way the death per infection appears far higher and that way it scares the living daylights out of more people. This makes them more likely to line up for the vaccine. And all the while In Sweden, people are relaxing on cafe terraces. read full story / add a comment

Invasive Australian flatworm reaches west Cork Sellers of plants should warn public of dangers of contaminated garden matter The invasive Australian flatworm has reached the Beara peninsula in west Cork. Flatworms from New Zealand were first recorded in Ireland in the 1960’s but the Australian flatworm was not recorded until 1981. Flatworms are top-level predators of soil organisms. They eat earthworms and appear to have met no natural enemies of their own in Ireland. According to the National Biodiversity Centre, the implications of its indefinite spread for the drainage and fertility of our soil ‘pose a threat to Ireland’s biodiversity and economy’. Japanese knotweed and the zebra mussels are examples of invasive species now out of control in Ireland. read full story / add a comment

130 national and international groups have today written to all Irish Party leaders requesting them to remove support for fracked gas infrastructure in Ireland. The letter comes as negotiations for Government intensify and requests an explicit policy statement to be included in the next Programme for Government against the development of all new fossil fuel infrastructure in the form of LNG import terminals that could facilitate the entry of unconventional fracked gas into the Irish energy mix. Two fracked gas terminals, or - LNG - terminals are currently proposed, in Shannon and Cork. The terminals would be developed as import hubs, allowing fracked gas into the European market from the USA where there is currently an oversupply of this controversial fuel. The terminals would play an important role in the shale gas supply chain, the market for which is currently very unstable. read full story / add a comment

Shannonwatch are appalled at the continuing use of Shannon Airport by US military troop carriers, despite the issuing of a stop movement order to the US military by US Defence Secretary Mark Esper on March 25th. This was intended to halt travel and movement abroad for up to 60 days in an effort to limit the spread of the coronavirus. However, troop carriers have been landing at Shannon as recently as April 10th, 11th and 12th. “We are astonished that in these times of national emergency, our leaders continue to permit the landing of foreign troops at Shannon Airport” said Shannonwatch spokesperson John Lannon. “Facilitating the movement of troops half way across the world to invade and occupy other countries is never good. But now more than ever it is absolutely unconscionable and unacceptable.” read full story / add a comment |
