Today the mainstream media are claiming that there has been a chemical attack by the Syrian government near Damascus even whilst an UN inspection team arrives. The reports have been conflicting with the initial reports claiming 280 victims and then later up-ing it to over 1,300 killed. However, the claims are predominantly coming from the so called Free Syrian Army who are backed and funded by some of the despotic Gulf States, as well as Saudi Arabia and by the Western powers principally France, USA and UK. This same group is made up mercenaries of all kinds including members of Al Qaeda who want to turn the country backwards and bring in Sharia Law and just back in May 2013 the UN accused the Syrian rebels of using chemical weapons. What is most telling though is that it makes absolutely no sense for the Syrian government to do this. In recent months they have retaken areas held by rebels and seem to have repelled several attack campaigns in the past two year. And France in particular as well as the other powers have been consistently in the last year being trying to throw the mud of chemical weapons and then chemical weapon attacks in a clear effort to force public opinion to back no-fly zones and from there total demolition of the country and invasion followed later by a pliant regime. The end game is to clear the way for an attack on Iran which the crazies have been pushing hard for many years. read full story / add a comment

On August 24, over 7000 activists marched, in 41 cities and 17 countries, for our fellow Earthlings. The event called people to take their blindfolds off to animal suffering and the human toll dairy and meat has. In Grafton street 40 people stood blindfolded near McDonald and Bernardo's Fur. read full story / add a comment

Few industrial accidents can match the severity of the Seveso disaster of 1976. Despite the resulting long-term health problems and environmental risks, however, the accidental release of gases including TCDD -- a form of cancer-causing dioxin -- into a residential area of Italy had some positive legacies, including the creation of tighter environmental regulations and health protections throughout Europe. read full story / add a comment

The Alliance for Animal Rights group AFAR wish to condemn the IGB who are fully responsible for the serious injuring of Four healthy Greyhounds who were made race at the ETS Derby in Shelbourne Park last week. All of these dogs were badly injured at the track, including being ‘KOd’ knocked over and sustaining bone breakages including broken legs and hocks. We surmise some of these dogs risk being killed as their racing careers are most likely ended and they are possibly only of use as stud dogs. read full story / add a comment

For generations the Mourne harbour town of Kilkeel has been a place where Catholics were largely expected to ‘know their place’. Catholics in Kilkeel will tell you of a persistent underlying daily tension, of deliberately timed and calculated sectarian beatings (including upon women and priests) as well as a complete intolerance of all symbols regarded as Irish, Nationalist or Gaelic. read full story / add a comment

The detention of David Miranda, partner of Glenn Greenwald, a Guardian journalist, at London’s Heathrow airport, coupled with death threats relayed by agents aligned with Britain's secret services, to an Irish Human Rights activist and journalist, covering the internment of Martin Corey in British Occupied Ireland, marks a new low in Britain's brutish abuse of Human Rights. read full story / add a comment

This article by the Revolutionary Socialists of Egypt is directed to their supporters, explaining in detail the principled stance they have taken. No to the Military Junta and No to Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood. Full text at link. Terrible massacres and violent repression, a huge escalation in attacks on Egyptian Christians and churches, the consolidation of the repressive military state continues apace. These are the momentous political developments we have experienced during the last few weeks. They pose enormous challenges to the revolution, but they also contain opportunities toprepare for the coming waves of the revolution, which the Revolutionary Socialists can use effectively to build the movement, provided that we develop tactics capable of dealing with changing circumstances. read full story / add a comment

At the dawn of the 21st century, the long struggle for Irish National Liberation is far from completed. Today Ireland and her people find themselves subjected to the interests of International Imperialism. Three giants of International Imperialism co-operate and compete with each other for dominance in Ireland, namely the US, the European Union and British Imperialism. read full story / add a comment

The anti-internment march in Belfast on 9th August 2013, was a welcome display of disciplined unity, against a most serious abuse of human rights, that the establishment parties in Ireland, either wish to ignore or damn with feint protest, while at the same time professing to be democrats, socialists or republicans. Up to 10,000 marchers stewarded by a variety of Irish Republican Socialists, Republicans and human rights organisations, marched from Ardoyne in the north of Belfast, until they they were stopped for approximately 2 hours by PSNI jeeps and thousands of fascist, rioting UVF and Orange Order members near the city centre. read full story / add a comment

The bloody dissolution of the sit-ins in Al-Nahda Square and Raba'a al-Adawiyya is nothing but a massacre—prepared in advance. It aims to liquidate the Muslim Brotherhood. But, it is also part of a plan to liquidate the Egyptian Revolution and restore the military-police state of the Mubarak regime. The Revolutionary Socialists did not defend the regime of Mohamed Mursi and the Muslim Brotherhood for a single day. We were always in the front ranks of the opposition to that criminal, failed regime which betrayed the goals of the Egyptian Revolution. It even protected the pillars of the Mubarak regime and its security apparatus, armed forces and corrupt businessmen. We strongly participated in the revolutionary wave of 30 June. Neither did we defend for a single day the sit-ins by the Brotherhood and their attempts to return Mursi to power. read full story / add a comment

We here have come together as a way of supporting the Russian LGBT community, in light of recent attacks on many LGBT people. We aim to pressure the Irish and other European authorities to convince Russia to repeal their recent anti-gay legislation. We are deeply concerned about the abuse of gay people in Russia but we can challenge prejudice. Russian Embassy,184-186 Orwell Road, Rathgar, Dublin 14, Friday 16/8/2013 18:00. This is a protest solely about LGBT rights. Obama has tried to jump on the bandwagon but he hasn't shown much respect for the rights of US citizens that he spies on. Nor has he respected the gay man Bradley Manning who has exposed the realities of the National Security State. Putins granting of asylum to Snowden should be applauded. read full story / add a comment |
