This terrace in Moore St. was the last site of resistance of the GPO garrison, Volunteers and Citizen Army, Cumann na mBan and Fianna, (about 100 people) after the evacuation of the GPO. It was therefore the last HQ of the Rising also. A number of fighters and civilians died in the street also. The site is neglected and under threat from developers. read full story / add a comment

The human suffering in British Occupied Ireland, by elderly political internees like Marian Price and Martin Corey, is markedly similar to the political internment, introduced forty years ago by the British, which escalated from crisis to disaster, culminating in the deaths of 10 Irish hunger strikers.

John Pilger is I believe, one of the few remaining ethical mainstream journalists, who reports accurately and truthfully. The elite currently own the Mainstream Stream Media, the Government and the Banking system. The proletarian 99% of "1984"continue to require but bread and circus. It seems like, it is probably all they will ever want while watching TV. The ruling elite or establishment worldwide know this, they have always known this. read full story / add a comment

This walk in the woods is to highlight the campaign to stop the government’s plan to sell off the harvesting rights to Ireland’s public forests under the EU/IMF “Troika” programme and to maintain them in public ownership.

The sell off of the harvesting rights will mean that the government will lease the land for 99 years to private companies. There will be absolute no guarantee of public access and the companies will be under no obligation to provide it. This will affect all the different people who use our national forests such as hikers, walkers, bikers, horse riding, tourists, cross-country runners, sports people and many others. It also affects access rights for your children and their children.

The event will feature music, readings and poetry with musicians Christy Moore and Paddy Casey, Actors Jeremy Irons and Sinead Cusack read full story / add a comment

Two policemen are under investigation for covering up a fascist brawl that involved Rome’s Mayor’s son, Manfredi Alemanno. According to Rome’s Public Prosecutors the inquiry that had followed the event was obstructed and then buried under the sand by the Police, thanks to the withholding of evidence and false statements made by policemen Roberto Macellaro (who in his free time volunteers to be the Mayor’s personal chauffeur) and Pietro Ronca, a local Chief Inspector in Rome. These two helped Manfredi Alemanno “disappear” from the scene after the beating had concluded, and then lied about what had really happened. read full story / add a comment

Maduro leads in the polls but the Right-wing Opposition Candidate Capriles has attacked the National Electoral Council & refuses tosSign CNE document re respecting the Results. Another coup attempt. may be in the works. More at link and on the site.

Nicolas Maduro goes into Sunday’s elections with a huge lead in the polls, according to the final survey of the polls carried out by the VSC.

This shows:

• The average lead for Nicolas Maduro is 16%
• Nicolas Maduro scored an average 53% compared to 37% for his main rival Henrique Capriles. (See chart 1)
• Only 10% of voters have yet to make up their mind about who they are supporting or will not vote. This is not enough to overturn Maduro’s lead.
• When the figures are adjusted just to look at those who have decided how they will vote, Maduro’s lead extends to 18%. (See chart 2) read full story / add a comment

The central bank is planning changes to the Code of Protection on mortgage arrears, these changes will mean it will be easier for people to be counted as non co-operating and thus make repossession easier, please send the submission below to [email protected] or make your own submission and send before April 10th to ensure your opposition to this is taken into consideration, with 95,000 people in arrears because of this banking led recession, the people who are bailing out the banks need fairness, there is nothing fair in all powers of discretion, supervision and appeals being with the banks who will not consider the good of the person or common good of the country. read full story / add a comment
