This article by Manlio Dinucci on the website VoltaireNet.org reminds us of the carnage brought fought by the US and of it's barbaric underpinnings and they are not just of the most recent election cycles.

It’s a fact, not an analysis, not even an opinion – the « free and open international order» promoted since 1945 by the United States has cost the lives of 20 to 30 million people throughout the world. No President, whoever he may be, has managed to slow the rhythm of this killing machine. read full story / add a comment

national / crime and justice / press release Wednesday November 28, 2018 23:30 by PBP   image 1 image
The report into the activities of the former Minister, Denis Naughton, on rural broadband is a total whitewash.

Naughton held eighteen meetings, and five dinners with representatives of Granahan McCourt. Minutes of these meetings were not kept and there were often no civil servants present. Yet the company was a bidder for the lucrative broadband contract.

But aside from Naughton’s unusual behaviour, there is an even bigger scandal looming.

Rural broadband was originally supposed to cost some hundreds of millions. But the latest estimate puts that figure at a staggering €3 billion. read full story / add a comment

In today's society, ‘more education' is marketed as the cure-all for economic and social ills. Conventional wisdom suggests that larger education budgets reduce social exclusion and inequality; that increasing numbers of university graduates turbo-charge growth; and that more classroom learning creates greater mobility. But if these ideas are true, then why has productivity growth slowed at a time when there are more graduates than ever before? Why, then, does social mobility also seem so stubbornly low and inequality so high in this hyper-educated environment? read full story / add a comment

This essay was written by Manuel Garcia, Jr under creative commons license and is republished here as it's message needs wider circulation.

Climate change action would kill imperialism, and that is why we can’t have it in America.

American political power is based on fossil fuels, and the US military is the engine that consumes those fuels to produce that power. So long as there is an American political elite that craves lucrative personal prestige and the ability to dominate internationally, the US economy will be fossil-fueled capitalism that maintains the military colossus that enables and protects those elite ambitions. read full story / add a comment

LookLeft Magazine on Nov 2nd have published an article on the recent election of the far-right president in Brazil and it is high lighted here to draw attention to this sinister development

The election of the fascist Jair Bolsonaro as president of Brazil marks the beginning of an intense period of reaction. It also signals the definitive end to the social democratic experiment that began in 2002 with the election of the Partido dos Trabalhadores (PT) candidate Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. read full story / add a comment

In a letter published today in the Irish Times ( https://www.irishtimes.com/opinion/letters/israel-and-arms-trade-...78396 ) newspaper, Minister of State Finian McGrath and fifty other Irish TDs and Senators have called for an arms embargo to be placed on Israel, and for “an end to the bi-lateral arms trade between Ireland and the apartheid state”.

In addition to independent Minister McGrath, the signatories include members of Sinn Féin, Solidarity-People Before Profit, Labour, the Green Party, Independents 4 Change and other independent members of the Oireachtas, who condemn “the shooting dead of some 205 [Palestinian] protestors, including 40 children, and wounding of more than 5,000 people by live fire [on the Great March of Return] in Gaza since April”. read full story / add a comment

The Court has today (Fri 19th Oct) at the request of Bord Pleanala put the hearing of the Judicial Review of the Ringaskiddy Incinerator planning permission back a month. The hearing is now scheduled to begin on 19 March 2019.

The Court has made some revisions to the timeline for exchange of documents in the meantime. The extension was triggered by the Board not meeting its deadline of last Friday for filing its Statement of Opposition. It explained to the Court that its legal team was in difficulty as the Board Chair had resigned and the new Chair only takes up office on 30 October. They asked to be allowed to file their Statement by 9 November. read full story / add a comment
