We, in common with all animal welfare/rights/rescue organisations and conservationist groups in Ireland are appalled that another hare coursing season has just been allowed to commence, with public hare-baiting sessions already having being staged at Liscannor in County Clare and Kilflynn in County Kerry. read full story / add a comment

Pressure is to be put on politicians - if this incinerator is not stopped they will lose votes (next year or early 2016 is a general election) We need to highlight and get people of Dublin involved - this is a Dublin incinerator that will affect whole of Dublin and Ireland. The Minister for Environment Alan Kelly can stop this incinerator if he gives the power back to Dublin City Councillors to make decisions about waste management. We are asking people to join in our protest on Wednesday 22nd October - meeting at Ringsend church at 5pm and marching to the Dail. Stop the Poolbeg/Dublin Incinerator! (Meet us at the Dail from 6-8pm) read full story / add a comment

The idea that we can tackle Ireland’s increasing homeless crisis by packing people into tightly fitted shipping containers is unfathomable, ill-conceived and an insult to injury to the countless number of homeless people in need of decent, adequate housing. read full story / add a comment

I am really excited to have such a great line up for you. Coming all the way from the USA, Professor Paul Connett of Fluoride Action Network and the gorgeous red lipped Hot Press journalist Adrienne Murphy will share the whys, the who's and the hows about the fluoride chemicals in our drinking water. The night will be hosted by my good friend and comedian Aidan Killian who will keep the event running smoothly and prevent any of us from over talking (which happens all the time when we start on about fluoride). I'd love to see lots of people coming who know nothing about fluoride, so if you have any one in your life that is on the fence please bring them with you and they will get the admission for free read full story / add a comment

It seems the US has realised it can cynically exploit the current Ebola crisis to further increase it's military presence in Africa. Speaking at the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, Georgia Tuesday afternoon, President Barack Obama declared: “Faced with this outbreak, the world is looking to the United States and it is a responsibility we are prepared to embrace. We are prepared to take leadership on this.” This is, of course a load of horseshit. It's just an excuse to bolster US military forces in a resource rich region. read full story / add a comment

To celebrate the international day of action on climate change on Sunday September 21st you can join the family friendly event in Clare. On Sunday, September 21st, just days before a landmark climate summit at the UN, Avaaz members around the world are taking part in a People's Climate March. World leaders don’t believe enough of us care about climate change, that’s why they’re still not yet rising to the challenge of saving our planet. But on September 21, we have an unprecedented chance to prove them wrong, with the largest climate mobilisation in history. We're joining with the Burrenbeo Conservation Volunteers who are organising a cleanup on the day. Together we'll make a local difference and add our voices to the global call for sane political responses to climate change. read full story / add a comment

How we can make the ultimate antidote to inequality more than an egalitarian fantasy? The idea of a “maximum wage” — a cap on the annual income any one person can claim — has been around ever since the time of Plato. In today’s staggeringly unequal world, that idea is making a comeback, in everywhere from Egypt to New Zealand. During the month of 2014 the Israeli stated launched a murderous war against the people of Gaza. They relentlessly bombed the Gaza strip which is perhaps one of the most densely populated areas in the world. People had no where to go and escape. Thousands of men, women and children were murdered by the state -perhaps even more were killed in that one month than they 30 years of conflict in Northern Ireland. read full story / add a comment |
