Corruption and incompetence rule in certain corridors of Dublin City Council. Coventa the company which somehow won the tender (despite not being a party to the bidding) and Dublin City Council have pushed the cost up to nearly €100 million for the land. Council Manager Owen Keegan said not one cent of the €96 million that has already been spent will be clawed back if the plan doesn't go ahead. Despite also as extra €36 million in extra costs many Councillors state that this whole thing has nothing to do with mad ideas from Bertie Ahern. Even if it does not go ahead it will still cost €600 million, and obviously this is the best interests of every else abroad who likes to sabotage Irish planning and make a few million doing so. Renewable energy is the future but not for the old school chums of yesteryear. read full story / add a comment

The Server of the Bristol indymedia IMC has been accessed by court order and all open publishing has been suspended. This coincides with the upcoming NATO meeting in Cardiff and is likely part of a government fishing expedition. In early September 2014, “world leaders” – all directly responsible for untold death, illegal torture flights, and wars fought purely to protect Western business interests and resource supply routes – will gather on the edge of this historic Welsh city. Three Rivers Earth First! had me to go Ferguson and do a reportback. This is it.
This is a community grieving. Not just over the murder of a single unarmed young man, though that was terrible enough. What I learned painting stencils with the children of that neighborhood today was this did not occur in some back alley. Where they shot him 6 times was right in the middle of a street, surrounded by multi level apartment complexes filled with children. If the shots did not get their attention the 4 hours they left the body in the middle of the street did. read full story / add a comment

Press Release - Woodland League The public amenity forest at Gougane Barra, co Cork has been clear-felled for no good reason. This is the claim of an internationally renowned Irish tree-scientist and a number of Irish NGOs. In January 2014, Coillte, the Irish Forestry Board, contended that ‘sudden oak-death’ (Phytophtera ramorum) had infested the veteran larch trees in the forest and that urgent clear-felling was essential. Documentary evidence purporting to support this assertion dated July 2013 has been branded tenuous at best by Diana Beresford-Kroeger the renowned Irish tree-scientist who saw no sign of the disease while filming in the forest in August of that year. read full story / add a comment
