Very interesting discussion on Today PK (RTE Radio One) of how media misinformation, most of which originated during the 1981 H Block hunger strikes resurfaced during the release of state papers in 2012. Allegations that: - Bobby Sands told the Pope's representative that he would come off the hunger strike; - that Raymond McCreesh's family forced him to remain on hunger strike; - that the British agreed the substance of the prisoner's demands between the death of the fourth and fifth hunger striker; are discussed, by journalist Eamon Mallie, historian Eamon Phoenix and 1981 prisoners' spokesperson Danny Morrison. read full story / add a comment

Hands Off the People of Iran unequivocally condemns the ratcheting up of sanctions on Iran in the aftermath of the much-heralded report of the International Atomic Energy Agency on that country’s nuclear capability on November 8. The report did little more than confirm the assessment that Hopi arrived at some time ago: that at worst Iran may be interested in the so-called ‘Japanese’ option. This is nuclear development that stops just short of the capacity to produce a nuclear weapon - but only by a month or so. But this is something that has been commented on many times before.

Despite the fact that this report contained little or nothing that was new (it was little more than a compilation of UK satellite pictures and the pre-existing reports of the CIA and other western intelligence agencies), imperialist leaders have fallen over themselves to express horror and outrage at these ‘new’ findings: read full story / add a comment

Eoghan Harris tried to run the 1997 election through Derek Nally, former head of the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors. He tried to destroy the Mary McAleese campaign by using Nally. That is where Harris's description of McAleese as a 'Tribal Time Bomb' came from. The bomb blew up in Harris's face when Nally found out. He ditched Harris and his political playmate, John Cadden, when he found out that he was a patsy. Nally was an unusual policeman who challenged the Garda 'Heavy Gang' in the 1970s.

Two successive days of entertaining radio as the motley crew opposing Martin McGuinness (Michael McDowell, Fintan O'Toole, Ed Moloney, Gregory Campbell, etc) get their act together.

Fintan and Ed have difficulty debating. On Tuesday (Sept 20) on the Pat Kenny Show, Ed Maloney refused to appear with Danny Morrison. That was after imposing the same conditions on the BBC. A very important fellow is Ed, who likes to be able to chose who is good enough to appear alongside his elevated self.

An even more important person is Fintan O'Toole, who, after a long innings on Radio Ulster's Stephen Nolan Show (September 21), took up his ball and ran. He was unable to persuade the great unwashed) to be quiet while the great one droned on uninterrupted.

With the 10th Anniversary of the events of 9/11 nearly upon us, it is about time that the other side of the 9/11 story is told instead of letting the usual talking heads such as Bush, Cheney, Rumsfield and Giuliani repeat ad nauseum the ridiculous 'Official' story....

See this breaking news interview with War correspondent Pepe Escobar on Russia Today television.

The hostility persists in Tripoli and the Libyan rebels continue the search for Gaddafi, but who is leading the rebels? Who are the beneficiaries of the fall of Gaddafi? What will the blowback be for those in Libya and across the globe? Pepe Escobar, a correspondent for Asia Times, gives us some answers to these questions. read full story / add a comment

All are agreed, something amazing is happening right here and right now on this beautiful little planet. And, by Christ do we need it!!! A week ago, even in Spain, there wasn’t too much awareness of what was going on with the M-15 movement, but now, only days later and it appears that a bomb has gone off. Last look on the digital map of places participating in the #SPANISHREVOLUTION gave a count of 650 (yes that’s right SIX HUNDRED AND FIFTY) places around the planet expressing solidarity with what’s going on here in Spain, or being inspired to bring the revolution to their part of the world. read full story / add a comment

Nazly Hussein speaks from outside the military courts which this afternoon (Friday 12th March) was supposed to address the people the army harrassed and arrested last Wednesday during a brutal attack on those occupying Tahrir Square. Nazly describes how several hundred plain clothes thugs was deployed against people in the square on Wednesday, who set about pulling down tents and beating people up. The army, under the pretence of ‘protecting’ those remaining in the Tahrir then began beating, arresting and electrocuting people within the the pro democracy movement. Over 170 people where arrested, most of whom where later released without charge. Many had been beaten and tortured with electrocution. read full story / add a comment

Given it is just days away from the election and a new government, most likely to be led by Fine Gael, many are probably wondering what exactly is the current state of Ireland and what are the prospects for recovery. In short, things are bad and a recovery is very unlikely. There are also wider and bigger global issues and we are unprepared and should be doing something about it now. read full story / add a comment

Egypt's on Fire: The winds for democratic change are strongly blowing in that country to dislodge US/Israeli backed traitor Hosni Mubarak and his Obama picked replacement, Omar Suleiman (also, "Israel's favourite Egyptian", Robert Fisk). Yesterday afternoon in Dublin, Egyptians, Arabs, internationals and Irish people of conscience assembled outside the Egyptian Embassy in Clyde Road, Ballsbridge to give the ambassador and all who care to listen a strong message that Mubarak and Suleiman will no longer be endured or tolerated and both have to go and be replaced with true democracy. Judging from the shuttered and closed blinds of the Embassy windows, denial held sway and the blind eye and deaf ear was being turned to the trumpeting elephant inside.? read full story / add a comment
