The Local Council Elections are taking place this week and it is worth taking a look at what they are about and what main groups other than FF and FG are running whilst relecting on recent history aka the Mahon Planning Tribunal to remind ourselves of how bad things were. Also an attempt is made to devise a list of questions for the candidates when they come canvassing to your door and to get people thinking about what councils do and why you should spend even a few minutes a year to find out more and get them to work for you instead of vested interests. read full story / add a comment

State expenditure, as a whole, constitutes an enormous deduction from total surplus value. This largely unproductive spending involves an enormous contraction in the accumulation of capital. It is a deduction that has been growing significantly in the aftermath of the 2nd World War. In the present period of growing problems, regarding the accumulation of capital, there have been continuing feeble attempts to shrink the state or at least reduce the annual rate of state spending. read full story / add a comment
