Science is showing that free speech is built into the brain, says Dr. Christopher Badcock. The latest insights from neuroscience suggest that the censorious are regressing to infantile cognition where no nuance is allowed.

Just 20% of Muslim Americans voted for Kamala Harris ? fewer than voted for Donald Trump! The reason Muslims are abandoning the centre-Left is clear, says Noah Carl: they want parties that don't back Israel.

Not long ago, anyone criticising St Greta was labelled a bully. Her expertise in climate science was beyond question, despite leaving school at 14. Now, it looks like the heretics were right and the worshippers were fools.

We never talk about the costs of not tackling climate change, claims new Climate Change Committee CEO Emma Pinchbeck. On the contrary, says Ben Pile, media scare stories of impending doom are all we ever hear about.

Obama greets the US embassy staff (photo Lawrence Jackson)

You have to be in the matrix to believe 'Yes we can'

The country yesterday was abuzz with the visit of Obama to Ireland and the mainstream was aglow covering the event. There is no doubt he is popular in Ireland as evidenced by the tens of thousands who queued up and turned out to see him and went through airport type security to get a closer look. I would suppose there are two reasons for this and one is that everyone wants to be seen and associated with success and the other is that Irish people seem to get very proud of their country and want to show it off when important people or visitors in general show up.

"Hello, is that Paul williams?"

The official Garda response to the release of the ‘rape tape’ last month was contrite and sympathetic, in accordance with the public mood of outrage. But behind the scenes, familiar tactics were deployed: Gardaí used the media to try to divert attention from the recording by maligning the women who released it. And while there was a lame attempt to blame the women for delaying the investigation in the first week, it now transpires that the Sergeant at the centre of affair still has not been interviewed by the Garda Ombudsman.

Tahrir Comes to Spain

Pissed off with very high unemployment, a political system which is not working, a feeling that banks and the markets matter more than life itself, the youth, unemployed and precarious of Spain launched their revolt last Sunday. Three days on and many squares in the country are occupied and movements are building up under the banner of "Democracy Real, Ya! (Real Democracy, Now!)

"Posters are a vital political tool"

In a blatant and outrageous act of political censorship Dublin City Council is attempting to impose an unprecedented ban on posters advertising political protests. This poster ban represents a very real attack on the right to political expression, the right to organise politically and the right to assembly.

If it's a clean city they want, let's do our share
and clean parts of it:

The ban is due to come into effect from May 15th to May 25th, during which time both the 'British Queen' and US president Barack Obama are to visit Dublin. Those applying for permission to erect posters have been sent the following email by the council: 'I wish to advise you that your application has been refused. This decision has been taken on the basis that no postering applications for events between 15th and 25th May are being granted in the interest of promoting a clean environment for Dublin City during forthcoming State visits.'
