We are the outraged, the anonymous, the voiceless. We were there, silent but alert, watching. Not gazing upward at the powers that be, but looking from side to side for the right time to unite with each other.

No political party, association or trade union represents us. Nor do we want them to, because each and every one of us speaks for her or himself. Together, we want to design and create a world where people and nature come first, before economic interests. We want to design and build the best possible world. Together we can and we will. Unafraid ... read full story / add a comment

While in previous years the weather has been typically sunny and dry – apart from the unforgettable rain, cold and high winds of 1991 – it is sobering to remember that the original famine walk occurred in weather that would have been worse than that experienced this year, taking place in bitterly cold and hail storm conditions in March 1849.

The old City Arts building - another wasted NAMA building
dublin / miscellaneous Thursday June 02, 2011 - 23:20 by Mick   text 1 comment (last - saturday june 04, 2011 - 10:31)   image 2 images
Join us on June 11th for the launch of the Campaign for the Old City Arts Building (COCAB). Our aim is to take back the Old City Arts building, 23-25 Mosse St (near Tara dart station) which has been abandoned for nearly a decade and is now part of the National Assets Management Agency (NAMA). We want the building to be opened up for use as an educational and cultural space, managed collectively by anyone who wants to take part, independent of private or state institutions. We also want to broaden this by demanding that the NAMA legislation be changed so that all disused NAMA buildings can be used by the citizens for social and cultural projects, social housing or (in the case of undeveloped land) community gardens. It is clear that the politics of ‘elected representatives’ has completely failed in the context of the crisis- only people power and direct action can bring real change. ... read full story / add a comment

It began on the 15th of May in the form of demonstrations across Spain with an estimated attendance of 150,000. The municipal elections in the Basque Country last week gave Bildu, a coalition of social democratic parties and Abertzale Left candidates, overwhelming victory, now having the majority of town councils of any party across the Basque Country and in one of its major cities, while coming first in one of the four southern (Spanish-ruled) provinces, second and third in another two. ... read full story / add a comment

All are agreed, something amazing is happening right here and right now on this beautiful little planet. And, by Christ do we need it!!! A week ago, even in Spain, there wasn’t too much awareness of what was going on with the M-15 movement, but now, only days later and it appears that a bomb has gone off. Last look on the digital map of places participating in the #SPANISHREVOLUTION gave a count of 650 (yes that’s right SIX HUNDRED AND FIFTY) places around the planet expressing solidarity with what’s going on here in Spain, or being inspired to bring the revolution to their part of the world. ... read full story / add a comment
