In this process truly poetic rather than scientific, in which consortia of species succeed in building an environment increasingly rich and varied, every plant, every animal, every micro-organism has its contributory role, being the man for the first time in history, leaving his sad protagonist role of stingy tormentor of nature and life and move creatively to assume the coordination of the construction process.
Throughout the process disappears the necessity of introducing the classic Fordist agriculture inputs: the live system produces himself the nutrients needed, regardless of chemical fertilizer, all seeds and seedlings can now be obtained locally, are not required the pesticides, pests are controlled by the multiplicity of species that evolve together, there is no monoculture, there is work, activity, harvesting, planting and management throughout the year. ... read full story / add a comment

Last Thurs 24th Jan 2013, the Irish and British governments agreed on a memorandum of understanding for energy trading between Ireland and the UK. This will pave the way for the export of Wind Energy to the UK. This would likely make use of the electric interconnector completed last year between the UK and Ireland although it may need additional cables.

The wind resource in Ireland is probably greater than what the Irish electrical grid can cope with and hence the idea is that the surplus wind energy can be exported to the UK which has a far larger electrical demand than here and could probably take every watt exported.

Unfortunately it seems that there is a bit more to this though the official green good news because apparently there are plans by a number of companies to erect up to 2,300 wind turbines in the Midlands of Ireland. Is blighting our landscape for the UK the way to solve the energy problem? ... read full story / add a comment

Harris announced on 13 January that he, like the Sunday Independent paper edited by Anne (formerly Mrs) Harris, has been ‘silent’ on loyalist flag riots in the North of Ireland. The riots started out as an attack on the moderate unionist Alliance Party. Alliance brokered a compromise on Belfast City Council that permitted flying the Union Jack flag on 18 ‘designated’ days per year. The SDLP and Sinn Fein plan had been for either a shared no-flag space in the council or for parity of esteem by flying the Irish Tricolour with the Union Jack. Unionists don't do compromise.

The DUP and UUP, egged on by the unionist Newsletter, put out 40,000 leaflets attacking Alliance MP Naomi Long and her party generally. Long took DUP leader Peter Robinson’s seat at the last British general election. A sore point. ... read full story / add a comment

The government has published The Water Services Bill 2013 that gives it power to impose a Water Tax from Jan 1st 2014. The Bill has yet to go through the Dail for possible minor amendments. The Bill will handle our public water resources and infrastructure over to a private company that will be able to extract what essentially amounts to a form of rent for providing a basic need like water. The tax will cost at least €500+ a year although naturally the government has played down this figure.

Initially the government will take the tax as revenue for themselves but eventually this gift will be handed over to private companies. ... read full story / add a comment

The Cherry Picking of the Mainstream Media

This story shows once again the sickening results of the abuse of the word freedom. The American and British public should hear about this. How does this rank alongside the story of the young Pakistani campaigner, Malala Yousafzai? It's a sickening outrage and a disgrace.

"On Sunday night (Jan. 6th), 18 month old Saiyma Gadazai froze to death in the Kabul refugee camp where she was born. Her father told how they fled the war in the South. He held both NATO and the Taliban in equal contempt. She was laid to rest next to a 3 year old boy called Janaan who died in the same camp 13 days ago. Also from exposure. This country has been under the control of the richest nations on earth for over 10 years. For children to be dying like this in its capital city is utterly obscene. SHARE if you think something should be done about this!" - Guy Smallman *** See link for photos.

Civilian deaths have risen by 28% in Afghanistan, In Yemen and Pakistan Drone attacks increase, not just Al Qaeda and Taliban die, many civilians perish in these far from surgical strikes. Ironically the miltants killed by the US in Pakistan, Yemen and Afghanistan hold the exact same beliefs as the Jihadists backed by the US in Syria, Egypt and across North Africa. Even more bizarrely the US arm Jihadists in Iranian Baluchistan while they fight another branch of the same organisation in Pakistani Baluchistan! Did it ever cross the minds of the CIA that weapons supplied in Iran work just as well in Pakistan?

In the US, Obama has signed into law the bill which continues the operation of the Guantanamo Bay prison camp and allows for indefinite Military internment without charge for US citizens.

Time for the good news: The European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg has awarded damages to a CIA torture victim who was subject to extraordinary rendition.

Wikipedia defines "Law-Fare" as:
Lawfare is a recently coined word not yet appearing in the Oxford English Dictionary, a portmanteau of the words 'law' and 'warfare', said to describe a form of asymmetric warfare.

Lawfare is asserted by some to be the illegitimate use of domestic or international law with the intention of damaging an opponent, winning a public relations victory, financially crippling an opponent, or tying up the opponent's time so that they cannot pursue other ventures

It has recently become a staple in the Zio-Nazi attempts to stifle all criticism and any and all attempts to help Palestinians obtain their legal rights.
