In a letter dated 22nd December 2010 to the Justice Minister, Dermot Ahern TD, the Irish Refugee Council called for an independent inquiry into the treatment of 34 Nigerian nationals, including 12 children, and 1 Irish citizen child, who were returned to Dublin from Athens following a technical fault on a Frontex* deportation plane. The Council also called for a halt to all deportations pending an independent review of deportation procedures. Report from rally called by the Anti-Racist Network Ireland held yesterday at the Dáil. Jump To Comment: 1 2Is there such a thing as a "humane" deportation? Rounding people up and putting them on a plane because they're black is always inhumane. It should be stopped for good, not "for now" or pending inquiries.
Say, just for the hypothesis, you deported Bush/Cheyney/Rumsfeld&Co to Iraq for trial by relatives of the victims of depleted Uranium residues in their water and land.
I would consider that a "humane deportation". Pinochet, Marcos, The Shah, and all those escaped criminals being given shelter(often in the neo-colonial motherland)spring immediately to mind.
Or our own transoceanic escaped bankers might be hauled back for penal retribution for their crimes against that same humanity.
Well, I did say it was a theory. Meantime they use the law as an instrument of the rich to ensure they wont be disturbed by any ripple on their racist ponds, as when Micky McDowell decided getting born here was insufficient to qualify you for native Irish status.
I can think of a few humane deportations, starting with the Berties and Marys et al that have inflicted a return to emigration on our 'surplus' labour force now they have their sabotage near done.
