Rules and Regulations

We all learn a lot of rules and regualtions and make an effort to abide by the rules. We know that rules are necessary to understand in order to play the game. But often we suspect that the rules are somone else's rules and not really to our advantage. Some people do the honourable thing and just break the rules; others circumvent, subvert, bend, bend, twist, exploit the rules

My father idolised Paddy O'Brien, a big man who played by the rules and hurt no-one. I had the time, the inclination, and the permission from Eugene Smith to watch on his television, nearly every game in the 1966 World Cup. Bobby Moore captained England to a famous victory in that tournament. I was fortunate enough to see myself, in The Bernabeu, the unforgettable lofty figure of Fernando Hierro who used his brain rather than his brawn to forestall and unpick every problem in defence.

"How much do you owe?"

"100."

"Well take your bill and write 50."

For the children of darkness are shrewder than the children of the light.

A star fell from the Irish sky this morning when Bertie Ahern declared his intention to retire from politics. A little light went out somewhere.

Meanwhile the hollow pride and hubris of our native Irish pundits increases and calcifies.

"A star fell from the Irish sky this morning when Bertie Ahern declared his intention to retire from politics."

Bullsh*t. This corrupt gombeen is responsible for long term suffering of the poorer classes in Ireland for years to come and no doubt indirectly responsible for deaths contributed to by lack of proper funding in a basket case semi privatised health system and an electricity company which cuts poor people off with huge reconnection fees and hands out huge salaries/pensions for top execs.
No tears will be shed on this asshole's retirement except the ones produced by dawning awareness of his eye watering pension payment while the income of those on social welfare is slashed over the next 4 years to pay bank debts caused by his developer friends in Anglo Irish Bank and their co conspirator gambling friends in the english and german banks.

F*ck Bertie Ahern. May he rot in hell. Good riddance. His treasonous ass is lucky not to be sentenced and shot. Instead he gets a golden parachute for being crooked

Isn't that a bit on the merciful side?

No, I'd give them all the jobseeker's allowance, and make it a criminal act to offer any of them remunerated employment. Then tell him he could pick up his 'volunteering in the community' agenda where he left off.

Make MY new year happier than seeing him snuffed. And when they get sick(as they will they've been homeless for a while, priorities dictating he go to the end of the housing list while we accomodate the repatriated Irish citizens his government deported)give them a trolly on Dun Laoire pier and tell them there should be a boat in soon.

You are FAR too lenient.

Sorry, lads. I was selling the parish yearbook all day yesterday and singing in the choir yesterday evening. Today I was playing golf. It's not that I want to ignore you!

My advice to GombeenArsehole is to relax and learn to love every fucker. That way you will live longer and do less damage.

I am glad to see opus diablos has learned how to make a paragraph. It's nice to see someone using their imagination on indymedia.ie. However a measure of common sense is also reassuring. Now I suggest opus takes the time to read a thread from top to bottom before adding his tuppenceworth.

Candidly I do not think we need another royal family in Ireland. We already have enough pretenders and would-be aristocrats. I am not sure whether the presidency in Ireland could assume a mentoring role as the constitution now stands. I imagine it could. My opinion is that Bertie Ahern is ideally suited.

..if you are going to get snide, reads(check it): Play the ball not the player.

the other tuppence: Most of your post consists of a shot of your well-fed face.

Extra hal'penny. I suspect I had half a grip on the paragraph while you were playing with your ABC blocks.

What script is framing your irrelevant visage takes little reading. Your conclusion speaks for itself. I trust you and bertie will be happy in the choir, the parish priest's house, the golf course(well he did finish his other greens, so I gues he's entitled to go out and play with you)and all points further right.

Bertie Ahern as mentor?I believe you confuse the word with Minotaur. They do have labyrinths in common, not unlike Mother Church.

I'll leave it at that. As jenny says,'..because you're worth it'.
