Egypt, vile Egypt has enraged the people of Bil'in ... and they marched in protest on New Year's Day

category international | rights, freedoms and repression | news report author Saturday January 02, 2010 17:49author by TD - Free Palestine Campaign Report this post to the editors

"Nobody's innocent"

It's a small mercy that: "The Viva Palestina convoy is now steaming towards Egypt after facing down all efforts to delay or stop its mission to bring relief to the besieged people of Gaza" (Alice Howard; Viva Palestina).
It's a large crime, a crime against humanity that Egypt, a client state of Israel and the US, cold-bloodedly obstructed vital humanitarian aid reaching the desperate Gazans and brutally assaulted the Gaza Freedom Marchers and prevented them from breaking the medieval siege of that suffering land.

That a so called Arab sovereign state is tightening the noose further with a 10Km steel wall sunk deep underground between Gaza and Egypt is another crime of the first magnitude and it was these crimes that enraged and incited Bil'in's villager's to vigorously protest on New Year's Day at the Apartheid Wall. Ably assisted by Israeli Anarchists Against the Wall and internationals: one Israeli protestor after pulling away the razor wire sited to keep the demonstrators at bay fearlessly crossed the dirt track at the Wall to confront and verbally whiplash the Israeli Occupation Forces on the other side and it was this withering that possible shamed and stimulated the IOF Commander at the scene to saunter down with two nervous soldiers in tow to engage in debate, as it were. Even though his manner was that of a school teacher towards mischievous children it was a quantum leap away from the usual violent "dialogue" between the IOF and demonstrators: live fire, lethal high velocity "rocket" tear gas projectiles, "skunk water" that induces vomiting, sound bombs and barrages of tear gas canisters, sometimes up to 56 at a time, beatings and high frequency unbearable noise that has the capacity to damage ear drums. However, any brownie points he earned as a consequence were quickly withdrawn with disgust after he responded to the information that friends of the Israeli protestor were murdered at the Wall (Bassem Abu Rahma), shot in the head (Tristan Anderson and Khamis Abu Rahma) and eyes with a: "Nobody's innocent".
