A call-out to organise an Anti-NAMA March to the Dáil on Wednesday, September 16th

Let them hear us loud and clear! This is a call-out to organise an Anti-NAMA March to the front gates of the Dáil on Kildare Street on the day that they will be discussing it; Wednesday, September 16th. As people may be aware; indymedia.ie article 93622; And indymedia.ie article 93620; there are already two major protests against the greatest reverse bank robbery of all time; namely NAMA; which will bankrupt, cripple and deflate the Irish economy for an entire generation; unless we force this government to scrap NAMA completely. These two protests; which look like they're going to be massive; take place on the Saturday before; and the Saturday after the NAMA legislation is to be debated in the Dáil; which is going to be on Wednesday, September 16th. Therefore, I am proposing that we a have a third Anti-NAMA March in addition to the two that are already taking place; but that this one happens on the day that the Dáil debates the NAMA legislation; Wednesday, the 16th of September; and that this time; that we March right up to the front gates of Leinster House on Kildare Street; so that they can hear us loud and clear: "We don't want your NAMA here!"; and "No bail-outs for bankers and property speculators!"; and "Money for health, education and other vital public services; and to stimulate the economy!" "Not for banks!". This time we insist on marching up to the front gates of the Dáil; and we don't let them stop us. A large enough crowd will stop them trying to intimidate us. |

Getting a good turn out for two protest so close together might be difficult. Adding a third one into the mix might just weaken the campaign.
There are also a number of other protest coming up, including one against cuts to the Community Sector on 30th September, 1pm, Parnell Square.
Just had to get the plug in.

Hi lemonade joe,
I understand where you are coming from with your concerns that having three Anti-NAMA protests in a week might weaken the campaign. However, I believe that we shoud go ahead and have the three Anti-NAMA Marches for a number of reasons. For a start; as I said in a Comment on another tread: Article 93622: "it can be a bit pointless marching to an empty Dáil (i.e. on a Saturday)." That's why it would be a great idea to have an Anti-NAMA March to the Dáil on Wednesday, September 16th; the day that the Dáil is discussing (Possibly voting on?) the NAMA Legislation. Of course I think that the Other Two protests Should Still Go Ahead; and I Will Be Present At Both Marches as well as whatever happens on the 16th of September.
I don't think that a March to the front gates of Leinster House on the Wednesday, the 16th will take away from the huge numbers that I think will also attend the two demos on Saturday the 12th and the 19th for a number of reasons. Firstly; there's such huge anger out there amongst the public about the greatest reverse bank robbery of all time that many people; myself included Will Attend All three demos to demonstrate our intense anger and rage over this multi-billion Euro 'Government' bail-out for the banks and the property speculators; the very ones who got us into this mess in the first place. In addition human nature being human nature; unfortunately; some people can only attend one protest; and they will not be able to participate in the two other Anti-NAMA Marches on the 12th and 19th September. Also; the 16th of September is a normal working day for most people; and therefore there will be a lot more people in town that day; which will boost numbers. As well as that; given the intense outrage that there is out there amongst the general public about NAMA there is a mood out there for everybody to down tools for the day like they did with the PAYE Tax Marches in March 1979 and January 1980. I am certainly doing my best to get my workplace; and others that I; and my family and friends either work in; or know people who work in; and their children; to come en masse on the March on September 16th. There must be no business as usual on the 16th. It's time to hurt these people where it really hurts. Dublin Council of Trade Unions (DCTU) please take note. Plus it will ratchet up the media coverage and interest to have a demo on the same day that NAMA is being debated in Dáil Eireánn; namely September 16th. Let September 16th (S16) go down in history as the day that the people of Ireland took back control of our country for once and for all.
That's why I'm glad to hear from lemonade joe that "There are also a number of other protest coming up, including one against cuts to the Community Sector on 30th September, 1pm, Parnell Square." The more protests, strikes, sit-downs, agitations, Marches, pickets and blockades the better. It's time to toss out this deeply unpopular and Anti-People 'Government' from power. I will certainly be attending the demo against the cuts to the Community Sector on the 30th of September at 1pm at Parnell Square; as well as any other protests that I can get to; and I strongly encourage everybody reading this to do the same; and get their family; friends; work colleagues and kids to attend these demos as well.
Details of all available transport being organised to the demo should be publicised in all the areas. Many more will go, if there are buses organised and so on.
I couldn't agree more 'by all about getting there'! Apologies for harking back to the great PAYE Tax Marches of March 1979 and January 1980; but, for those who weren't around in '79' or '80' they were One Day National Strikes, when All Workers downed tools for the day. This is on the record and this is what happened on the days of the PAYE demos: "Buses brought people to the Marches and then withdrew from service to join the protests." If we organise properly, the same arrangements will be in place for September 16th, as well as for the other two massive protests on the 12th and the 19th. Let's organise a fleet of Unionised buses, trains and taxis to ferry the people to and from the Marches, and as you say, we'll get a hell of a lot more out onto the streets.
does it matter if the irish people come out in force and march against this abomination of a bill. this is going to be rammed down our throaths like most of the stuff we didnt want for the last 90 years. there are so many of the current government with too much to hide, they would rather see the whole country sink than do the honourable thing like commit suicide. no matter what we do, unless people get very radical and really put the pressure on those little fuckers who we voted in during the last election (when we all got rich during the celtic tiger, what a fucking laugh), then nothing will change.how dare those theives in dail eirann try and make us pay for their incompetence, their robbery, their abuse of a very generous expense system and then feck off and take 13 weeks holidays. while the whole country is going down the shitter. more shame on all of us if we let them get away with it, because if we do not one of us can proclaim to love our children as it will be them that are paying it back for ever. but the likes of bertie (crook no 2) cowen the fool, and lenihan who is every bit as bad as his father will come out of government with their big fat pensions, on top of salarys that even american senators can only dream of. but what can we accept from a party that got its ethos from the most crooked leader in the western world, namely one C.J HAUGHEY.enough said. yours bobby moore
well said bobby the apathy and general lack of fire in this country is crazed i think we have been taken and beaten down and abused a long time ago, our fathers have a lot to feel ashamed about and now it seems that things are still the same and getting worse admiration to those who will march but the only way things will change is to bring them to their knees by what ever means...
