Trade Union UNITE hits back in Belfast Airport dispute.

category national | worker & community struggles and protests | other press author Tuesday November 04, 2008 16:22author by Ronnie Report this post to the editors

Indymedia users will be aware of the longrunning dispute between the trade union UNITE (formerly ATGWU) and a number of Shop Stewards sacked by ICTS in Belfast in2002.
.

The dispute has involved hunger strikes by former union shop steward Gordon McNeill. Socialist Party activists, including former TD Joe Higgins, have attacked UNITE and Irish Regional Secretary Jimmy Kelly over the issue.

The Union has produced its version of the truth. It is available at http://www.tgwu.org.uk/Templates/System/Other.asp?NodeI...94372.

That statement, full of lies and half-truths, is nothing new. Check out this link for the response. Look around that site for more info too.

UNITE's statement above whose tone I felt is boardering on the arrogant is rich coming from a Union that is systematically destroying it's own active branches!!
To be pointing fingers at others saying they are damaging the Trade Union movement (If it wasn't so serious) would be laughable.

Far to often those at the top of our movement, both elected and appointed, spend their time 'defending the movement' from members rather than fighting the bosses. For some reason these people think that they and their mates are the movement rather than the tens of thousands of ordinary members who are getting shafted every day by the bosses.

I am glad the airport workers stood up to T&G unite, they have at least forced this issue into the open at last. maybe now we will begin to take our unions back.

I can't seem to find any follow up on Gordon McNeill after September 2008
