Israel threatens Lebanon with "unrestricted" military attack

category galway | anti-war / imperialism | other press author Wednesday August 20, 2008 13:46author by TD - Free Palestine Campaign Report this post to the editors

"Gone are the days when wars are fought on remote and hidden battlefields while life in the cities carries on as usual," (Olmert)

Barak Ravid is reporting in today's edition of Haaretz newspaper that Israel would, according to PM Ehud Olmert, "unleash more massive firepower" and to "hit back harder than before," if Lebanon were to become a "terrorist state" under the domination of Hezbollah. Israel "did not use all means to respond then, but if Lebanon becomes a Hezbollah state, then we won't have any restrictions in this regard ... gone are the days when wars are fought on remote and hidden battlefields while life in the cities carries on as usual," he said.
"Life in Beirut carrying on as usual"
"Life in Beirut carrying on as usual"

Gone then, as it were, are the relative halcyon days of summer 2006, when Lebanese civilians were not criminally cluster-bombed and life in Beirut and other Lebanese cities, towns and villages carried on "as usual" and Israeli children in Kiryat Shmona sent messages of fraternity and love to Lebanon.?

Barak and Olmert spoke about a case inwhich Hizballah will rule Lebanon. And thus - probably attack Israel. This time it won't be different from a state's army attacking another state.
And the girls are residents of the city that suffered most from Hizballa's missiles. Do you know how many pictures of Lebanese and Palestinian children doing the same thing there are?

"how many pictures of Lebanese and Palestinian children doing the same thing there are" : for sure, the 1,050 Palestinian children murdered by Israel since September 29, 2000, the hundreds of Lebanese children murdered in the Israeli barbarity of summer 2006 and the hundreds of Palestinian/Lebanese children murdered in the 1982 Sabra and Shatila massacre by proxy Israeli gunmen; the Christian Phalangists, won't be "doing the same".

You should count as well the number of Christian Lebanses children who where massacred by the Palestinians in the monthes BEFORE Sabra & Shatila.
And the Christian Phalangists were Israel's allies, not proxy gunmen. You can blame israel with this no more then you can blame England in the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

The Kahan Commission established by the Israeli government to investigate the slaughter subsequently found that Israeli forces were indirectly responsible and Ariel Sharon was personally responsible for the massacre. However, in the 2005 Swiss-French-German-Lebanese co-produced documentary, Massaker, six former Lebanese Forces soldiers who participated personally in the massacre stated there was direct Israeli participation. One of them said that he saw Israeli soldiers driving bulldozers into inhabited houses inside the camp. Another said that Israeli soldiers provided the Lebanese Forces soldiers with material to dispose of the corpses lying around in the streets. Several of the soldiers said that they had received training in Israel.

The United Nations Security Council condemned the massacre with Resolution 521 (19 September 1982). This condemnation was followed by a 16 December 1982 General Assembly resolution qualifying the massacre as an "act of genocide."

Just to remind everyone

The PLO fighters were exiled from Lebanon to Tunisia as part of a ceasefire agreement in 1982. The safety of their families was suppossedly guaranteed by the US and other Western powers.

While the Male PLO fighters were transferred to another jurisdiction the Israeli Army arranged for the Fascist Christian Phalagne to massacre the unprotected Wives and Children of the exiled PLO fighters.

Rarely in the recent history of humans have we seen such bloodthirsty cowardly savagery

Wikipedia would have you believe that there is some dispute about whether or not the Israeli army had any foreknowledge of the bloodthirsty and cowardly massacre.

Wkikpedia seeks to cloud the issue.

THERE IS NO DISPUTE.

Even the Israelis themselves found Ari Sharon Guilty of complicity in this heinous massacre.

ONLY pro-Israeli zealots dispute the role of the Israeli Army in this bloodthirsty and cowardly massacre.

The Israeli newspaper, Haaretz, is reporting that: The Lebanese cabinet on Friday approved a decision to formally complain to the United Nations about what it perceived as recent Israeli threats against Lebanon. "To hear what Israeli officials say, one would think Israel was showering Lebanon with roses during its last aggression," Prime Minister Fuad Siniora said of the 2006 summer war between Israel and Hezbollah, in which over 1,200 Lebanese - mostly civilians - were killed. The cabinet was responding to remarks made earlier this week by Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, who said Israel would dispense with restrictions it has so far imposed on itself in combating Hezbollah on Lebanese soil should Lebanon "become a Hezbollah state."

Not a lot of point complaining to the Americans, who will have authorised any such attack or threat, having been consulted in advance.

Recent rocket fire from Lebanon on Israel were claimed by Qaeda-linked group - France24: http://bit.ly/2JUdmx , NOT by Hezbollah. Pullitzer-winner investigative reporter Syemour Hersh had written in 2007 an New Yorker article where he tied an AlQaeda group to the US-backed banana republic in Lebanon, lead by Hariri-Saniora http://tiny.cc/ntHVi . Saniora imported these maercenaries, who were apprehended by the Lebanese army after several months of battles, to attack Hezbollah and weaken the opposition they are part of. It's all very Tzar getting French forces to attack the russians... kind of thing. In the threatened Lebanese democracy, we have left over tzars, sectarian warlords to be more specific.

These sectarian warlords artificially latching out to power are a great help to Israel, or as we call them the neo-pilgrims. Just like the pilgrims that founded the US, they exterminate the natives to take their place. Very handy to corrupt abusive Lebanese leaders who need to shut the natives up! Israelis started out (and are ruled) by racist russian and european settlers, who saw arabs as an inferior race, all religions confused. Religion in fact has nothing to do with it. Religious diversity is a colonizer's excuse the divide and conquer us, the "natives". It's actually becoming a failed excuse. As to US's support, some US analysts say it's for the purpose of excusing an old pilgrim settlement, by backing up a new one: http://www.foreignaffairs.org/20080701faessay87402/walt....html

No reasonable person condones any sort of violence, nor against israel, but you see it is Israel that is creatign the violence as an excuse to attack! Israel's problem is not Hezbollah, it problem is that it changed. It's no longer a pon that can be used to fabricate a civil war, weaken and decimate the natives, and give the land to Palestinians, to free up Palestine for Israelis. They are European settlers indeed! Hezbollah is no longer available for fabricated civil wars thanks to the civil rights movement of Lebanon: the Lebanese Patriotic Party. This is the party with whom Hezbollah signed a memorandum of understanding (www.lebanesefromabroad.com), saying it will disarm and will not put the Lebanese population at risk of an attack by Israel. It asked that the current sectarian (same as racist) Lebanese government would stop treating it as a lower social cast, and acknowledge its illegal Lebanese prisoners in Israel.

The Lebanese patriotic party made this change possible through a social reform platform, and denouncing the old sectarian cast system as backward (sunnite on top, Christians in a state of paranoia, shiite at the bottom). Instead it demanded equality for all citizens, and a government that carries its social responsibilities and prevents inequalities as the health, education, etc...

That's the real threat to colonizers, Israel and the past Bush policy (still ongoing). Religious diversity as I mentioned is a colonizer's excuse the divide and conquer us, the "natives". Imagine their problem once Lebanon is a functional religious diversity, where we convinced once alienated and frustrated Lebanese to disarm, because their demands are now heard in parliament? How to fabricate civil wars then? I wish the media would stop acting like the fee patriotic party is not real, it's the second strongest block in parliament, and it's ending neo-colonization and ending the social injustice that led Hezbollah to become an illegal militia in the first place. The west is in denial about our current decolonization from false civil wars, just like Britan was in denial about Ghandi for a while. This denial also covers how the US-allies use an al-qaeda group to fabricate violence http://tiny.cc/ntHVi and frame Hezbollah with it. These are false excuses for an Israeli bombing of Lebanon.

"And the girls are residents of the city that suffered most from Hizballa's missiles."

Hey Ed, perhaps you can quantify this statement. Yknow, give us a few numbers. Otherwise the phrase"suffered most" has absolutely no context and it might sound to people who happen on this article and don't know any better, that the Israelis suffered equal numbers of dead and injured and suffered equal hardship to the people of Lebanon.

For instance, how many dead, injured Israeli citizens due to hizbollah rockets? Maybe a breakdown of women / children / fighters etc? Vs The equivalent Lebanese casualties for Israeli military activities

Perhaps you'd like to do one for Gaza too?. Those rockets really decimated the poor Israeli citizenry I hear! Certainly if "equal time" sympathetic column inches were anything to go by!

Bah! I truly hate apologists. What I just cannot understand is how readily some people can make up ridiculous excuses for the unreasonable killing of innocent women and children for what is probably very little money (if any!), then still call themselves human beings.
