Vaartkom Eviction in Belguim city of Leuven

yet another social centre eviction

The Vaartkom is a squqtted social centre and living space in the Belguim city of Leuven. It was squatted 2 years ago, and has been the central meeting point for the Leuven autonomous movement. Being home to up to 10 people as well as providing space for an info shop, free shop, band rehearsal room, and a weekly bar and peoples kitchen.

Due to the continued "yuppiefication" of the greater Leuven area, and the consistant attack on free social spaces all over Europe, the Vaartkom is to be evicted on the 1st of August to make way for yuppie apartments.
This can not be taken lying down. We must show that we will not sit back and allow our social spaces to be taken from us in pursuit of the intrests of the rich.

Actions in solidarity with the Vaartkom have already begun. Targeting the offices of prospectors participating in the gentrification of Leuven.
We would like to make a call for decentralized action from everybody who is involved in the broader autonomous movement.

This eviction does not only affect the people of Leuven, but is a sign of current €uropean policy of victimization against squatters and the autonomous/ anti capatalist movement:
