Madrid M11 Bombings Acid Test Cops cleared

category international | crime and justice | other press author Wednesday July 09, 2008 17:09author by by Report this post to the editors

In one of the last cases which finally should put the "Madrid 11th Bombing conspiracy theorists" beyond the pale of credibility, a court in Madrid has cleared 4 police officers in the forensic division of manipulating evidence. Their evidence which was exposed as flawed during the M11 trial had contributed to a conspiracy theory supported by elements of the right and far right during many years. They were subsequently charged with falsification but now are free and have been termed "honest policemen".

The court has decided that an administrative error led to the inclusion of "boric acid" in their report on the explosives and the intention of the charged men was not to falsely implicate ETA in the supply or procurement of the explosives used.

from English translation of Spanish news digest :

"The conspiracy theory for the Madrid Train bombings gets hit again : El Mundo leads with the Boric Acid case verdict where four police technicians have been found not guilty of a crime when they allegedly changed reports on the Madrid train bombings which attempted to link the explosions to ETA. The paper headlines that the Forensic Police were ‘untruthful’ by not linking ETA to the March 11th case. It’s another attempt to resurrect the conspiracy theory. "El Mundo" says the sentence in the case establishes that a report was altered in an irregular way – an inadequate way and improper of any official body – but it was not a crime. [Minister of Justice] Rubalcaba says that the sentence ends the ‘nightmare for four honest policemen’. "El País" headlines the judges destroy the latest conspiracy theory over March 11th 2004. The paper says that court has ruled that to name ETA in relation to the Boric Acid was ‘mere speculation without foundation’. The four accused policemen have been found not guilty. "Público" says its another blow to the conspiracy theorists. The Spanish press has caught up with the headlines in the British press yesterday regarding the number of dishes – 19 – served at the G8 summit on world hunger. El Mundo shows George Bush perusing the menu. El País shows the G8 bigwigs planting trees against climate change. Público leads with the story and says hunger is no problem for the G-8. The paper prints a copy of the menu El País has an interview with the 19 year old gypsy girl, Dolores Ortiz, who was held hostage and raped at knifepoint for 45 days by her ex boyfriend. She has kept in inhuman conditions in an old transformer building. El País says that three military chiefs are to be charged in the Yak42 case, for falsifying the identity of 30 of the 62 bodies resulting from the military transport plane crash. El Mundo takes note that the Government is to approve the destruction of its cluster bombs this month, and also ban their production."

Dont forget the daily attacks on civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan. The so called 'terror' that struck London, Madrid and Bali is nothing compared to the moment by moment terror inflicted constantly, relentlessley, and ongoing for the next 40 years if you are to believe Blair and Bush.
London, Madrid and Bali is what happens before breakfast every day since the USK invasion.

After the 7/7 bombings in London Sky reported that Tony Blair was going to..... 'make it illegal to discuss the causes of terrorism'....
Why?. Same reason they banned the IRA from ever talking on tv, Section 31.
Behind every so called 'fundamentalist' theres a human rights issue.

There was a drill set up that day also, for coincodentally-exactly what happened. Same in Oklahoma.

I wish i had thought of articulating it myself so well ;-)

I know it's not the place, & if I have left this little commercial plug and aside in the wrong place I'm sure I can find a better place for it another day -

I'd like to tell you about a wonderful book I reviewed in 1997 by Geoff Ryman. It's called "253". It details a tube journey on London's underground. As you know there are 253 seats on every London tube including the one for the driver. Ryman wrote it originally as an interactive internet novel, and it's site is still online though he has tweaked the options a bit since then. On his tube there are no people standing. Each person (and one is a mystery not really a person) has a profile, plan, past and short one page description. The tube they are travelling on overshoots the end of the line and has a crash.

"253 is thus a disaster novel as well as a keen study of human nature and characterisation. It was also a captivating example of how the new resource of internet might be used by artists in the future." i earned thirty quid for that Some people are lucky to change their minds and get off at the second last stop. Some don't. Some survive the smash at the end, most don't. It would have been worse for them if there had been people standing.

There's quite a range to the people Ryman put on those 253 seats, including junkies, migrants, students, lunchtime affairs and a smattering of employees from all the local shops. Including two Mi5 employees one of whom is on his way to cottage. "Cottage" is a mostly unused word now for homosexual trysting in public toilets which was the fate of many gay men before gay rights. His name is Mr Maurice Hazlett, passenger no. 31 - http://www.ryman-novel.com/car1/31.htm

Innocent cops, there everywhere. At least they diddnt get promoted like they do in ireland, but its early days yet.

Seems that 'altering a report ' is no longer a crime in Spain. That you are an 'honest policeman' even if you do. Suppose it all makes sense when you concider that 85% of Spanish citizens diddnt want their Prime minister Aznar, to join Bush in his illegal massacre's of Iraqis and Afghanis.
When the bombs went off Aznar tried for three days to blame it on ETA knowing it had nothing to do with them, he was trying to hold onto power through the election and the whole thing backfired and his lies were never exposed to the extent they should have through the press.
Crimes unpunished by a state in denial sounds the same as Ireland.

Honestly, one wonders at the level of credibility required to swallow the verdict of the Spanish court and of the Spanish capitalist media. Aznar, who claimed for three days that the Madrid metro bomb was ETA's when he knew it wasn't, presumably to help his election campaign and to legitimise Spain's support for the US war in Iraq and even greater repression of the Basque left-nationalist movement, at least paid the price of being dismissed from office by the electorate.

The police, however, who 'in innocent error" altered a forensic report to include a component, boric acid, found in ETA bombs but which was ABSENT in the Madrid metro bombing, not only go free but are given the 'honest cops' commendation!

Small wonder that the Guardia Civil and the Autonomous Basque police between them break up demonstrations, beat up protesters and detainees and even torture Basque political detainees (see Amnesty and EU Commission Against Torture reports) and when the dazed and bruised prisoners appear before the judiciary, these refuse to credit their accounts (even when the prisoner has to be rushed to Accident & Emergency).

Just as with the British state and its war in Ireland, the Spanish state is corrupting further its legal structures, its police and its judiciary in its war with Basque resistance (and I do not mean just the relatively rare military actions of ETA these days).

The article and partisan reporting made available through the English translations might not make have brought understanding of the issue and problem to the crystal clear transparency we are used to in post military or riot act governed societies such as are all the democracies wherein we indulgently and selectively forget whence we have come and perhaps through sheer inarticulate terror refuse to admit how close we are to.

quite.

Spanish plod removed bits of their report which would have implied that the explosive used was close in type to that used by ETA. In other words pretty tippy toppy quality hard to get ordinance. Not your baking yeast, growquick and hallowe'en bangers kitchen mix. Not even your local school lab pipebomb stuffing. But as is the way the nasties on the right and far-right and particularly the recently fined for defamation and slander, anchor broadcastman of the Roman Catholic radio network found out that the lines which could have made people think of pretty tippy toppy quality hard to get ordinance of the ETA variety had been excised.

now they could have taken this to the lists.
But instead as we remember they took it to the streets after losing the electoral lists and campaigned with fascistic contempt for four years.

Oh by the way - the man who stole the pretty tippy toppy quality hard to get ordinance "goma 2" went to jail and didn't as it happens buy it off a bad and dishonest member of plod (who came in to the conspiracy) or get given it by ETA.

Sure there's no harm in letting you know where to find the English pages on M11 conspiracy theories now, is there? Since they've all been disproved- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Controversies_about_the_20...tacks
Unlike of course plugging the excellent book 253 again http://www.ryman-novel.com/ which of course brings you on an online disaster romp around the London Underground.

191 people died in the 4 explosions in Madrid on March 11th and 1775 were wounded. Like in London they were on rush hour trains. Unlike London they were not in blast containment areas such as the circular architecture and engineering which gives the London Underground its affectionate sobriquet "tube". They were rather entering the main overground station and all travelling from the same suburb. The train they were travelling on had 297 seats or was designed to hold 707 rush hour commuters in an ideal world without press and hurry.

Which of course it isn't.

is it?

I reckon details about Spanish trains bore you. I just catch them a lot. But without any decent terrorist conspiracies yet appearing on the DART or LUAS, (wait till you get the Olympics or an Eucharistic Congress) you might enjoy in addition to the book 253 http://www.ryman-novel.com/ you might like the video "mind the gap" by former Mi5 agent Dave Shayler. He's very mad and thinks he's God but at least he doesn't stick his dick in holes in dirty toilets. Because the modern gay man has gone beyond such humiliating shame as was the past of his comrades in sexuality and love. Anyway & Besides without coming under this umbrella in sunny July 2008 without intending to beat around the burning bush -

Dave Shayler is quite straight. He said he was God and his wifey didn't leave him. That means either she knows what went in his brain or he's s-t-r-a-i-g-h-t and manly. But obviously not an excessive exgerrated way like the sort of modern gay gentleman who never had to cottage like passenger 31 in the book 253 which I reviewed.

I don't understand why Dave's vid begins with pictures of 911. That's coz I haven't actually bothered to watch it myself. I remember that day perfectly and took it granted anyone with a half farthing' worth of cop-on would have seen for what it was.

But trains are different.
aren't they?

author by Graemepublication date Wed Jul 16, 2008 09:08author address author phone Report this post to the editors

This report is a little bit misleading on what really happened with the boric acid case. The cops that were charged were accused of removing the information allegedly linking ETA to the bombings. What happened was that a forensic report on boric acid found in the home of one of those accused for the train bombings included a paragraph linking the finding to boric acid found in an ETA safe house 3 years earlier. The connection was speculative and a bit pointless because boric acid has nothing to do with the train bombings or any other similar act. The conspiracy theorists got hold of the original report and then accused the officers responsible of removing the paragraph of acting to hide connections between ETA and the bombings. Then associations linked to the conspiracy theorists brought the case of falsifying official reports. The accused cops were right to do what they did, the "administrative error" was the courts way of saying that they should have commissioned a fresh report rather than just having a senior officer sign the altered one.

Thank you for that clarification Graeme, this "other press" article is neither "news" per se or "opinion or analysis" as you probably appreciate. It is very encouraging that readers of IIC read such articles and see how misleading the almost diametrically opposed commercial press reports and slants & spin on this news was.

In somewhat related news on M11, the Spanish state Supreme Court has reduced from 21 to 18 of those who will serve prison sentences for the worst terrorist atrocity and event in recent European history.

The so-called "Mohamed the Egyptian" Rabei Osman has been absolved due to problems (including technical) with evidence. Also Jamal Zougam and Otman al Gnaoui have seen their sentences of 42,922 cast out.

The "Goma 2" explosive question has also come back with consideration of the surveillance and secret service evidence of conversations in Mc Donalds (a registered trademark of a popular fast food chain) and thus Raúl González Peña is now absolved from the previous charges relating to supplying the explosives (really good ones in case you missed it) for M11 but will now be processed for illegal trading in explosives, so Raul Peña is still a very very bad boy.

On behalf of the victims, their spokesperson Pilar Manjon has spoken of losing all faith in the judicial system and its perceived labyrinthine twisted eternal return from independence to politicking by those who alone are qualified to understand things like constitutions and rules and almost always write or apply them.

Oh yeah : the Supreme Court of the Spanish State did manage to include in its declaration that it is eyond doubt that the authors of the massacre were in the ambit of Al Qaeda Islamist jihadist terrorism. That might seem simple to say and write now, but once upon a time it got deleted from all pro-establishment news organisations as being silly or conspiratorial.

as we all know and remember.
