What's the difference between scepticism and cynicism? Cynicism is especially necessary for assessing politics, says Prof James Alexander, as it sits below scepticism, making us question the motives of those who rule us.

AI is a misnomer, says Joanna Gray. It's not and will never be 'intelligent'. The fact that human 'super recognisers' are needed to spot the mistakes that AI makes at least 25% of the time should be proof enough.

Libertas linked to Austrian far reich

category international | miscellaneous | other press author Sunday May 25, 2008 01:27author by D. Flanagan Report this post to the editors

A report in the Sunday Business Post links Libertas to Rettet Osterreich, an Austrian rightist political group. Rettet Osterreich held a rally in Vienna on March 12 which was attended by the neo-nazi National People's Party.

Libertas has links to the Austrian extreme right as well as to the U.S. war machine.

I would suggest actually reading the treaty before voting either way. There is a lot of confusion being created by those on both sides of the campaign. People need to sit down and read this for themselves.

Libertas and of its dubious connections were exposed in an earlier article

which was a well-timed pre-emptive strike against this kind of scare tactic

just vote no, regardless of media attempts to persuade you otherwise.

Fuck libertas and their activities. You aren't voting for them. There is no good reason to vote yes to this treaty. The fact that libertas suck is not important to how to vote on this issue and is just a distraction.

All the yes side have to offer is scare tactics and smears because they do not have any decent arguments to offer, not surprising really since half them have not even read it.

JUST VOTE NO

Yippee, another far right alliance for the Yes side to throw mud with. It's getting a bit like the Nice II campaign when FF backroomers came across newsreel of an antiabortion meeting on the continent addressed by Big Ears of Youth Defence. The panning shot on RTE gave us fleeting glimpses of strange crypto-swastika banners carried by a small group attending the conference. The logical inference was that Big Ears, and by implication YD which was campaigning for a No vote in Nice II, was tainted by fascist associations. Actually he never met these dubious individuals and couldn't read foreign language banners anyway, but the mud stuck and Nice II was carried, but not only because of Big Ears.

So this time round the miniscule Rettet Oesterreich group sending vote No messages vaguely through a network linked to Libertas is coming in handy for mudslinging.

"In any event, Irish voters are now receiving communications from Austria, asking them to vote in a particular direction. They might be surprised to know from whom at least some of these missives come"
