press release
Tuesday October 23, 2007 00:44 by Lisburn Strike Committee - CWSC
After many days fighting a lone battle to defend the education system. Classroom assistants took the magnanamous step to suspend their highly successful strike action to allow management to finally engage in meaningful negotiations. If anyone took this to be a climb down or retreat they were very much mistaken. As the negotiations reach a critical stage the message is loud and clear. "Settle this now or face more of the same" NIPSA's classroom assistant's call on every decent trade unionist to show solidarity with them in their time of struggle. They are fighting not only to maintain but to improve the standard of education for all children in this provence. If they are forced back onto the picket lines do not desert them to fight alone! Classroom Assistants have been shamefully treated for 12 years. To save money the department of education have constantly thwarted any possibility of a just settlement. Now as a means for backdoor education cuts they are attempting to slash the terms and conditions of thousands of workers, the implications of deskilling and devaluing these jobs will be felt in the education system for generations to come. This battle isn't just for the right for classroom assistant's to have a fair job evaluation, and to maintain their deserved terms and conditions. It is a battle for every child in this provence to have the right to the very best education that is possible. nipsa_ca_leaflet_oct_071.pdf 0.07 Mb |
