Meet the woman so afraid of climate change she made her husband get the snip and refuses to have children. It's "selfish" to bring children into the world "when we don't know if it's going to exist in 100 years".

Ireland 2016: A Time To Remember.

category national | miscellaneous | opinion/analysis author Tuesday April 28, 2015 15:01author by Robert Long Report this post to the editors

The commemoration to come, should be indicative, to those with discernment, of the true nature of the government of this country, those who WOULD take from us, everything that our fore-bearers tried to create.
As we approach the centenary of the 1916, Easter Rising, we look to our government to remind us of the origins of our nationhood, of the goals, so cherished by former generations and their tremendous suffering and triumphs, so that we may, through self-determination forge for ourselves, a destiny that we may be proud of and a bright future for our children. However, if one engages in some reflection on our first century of modern nationhood, and in particular, the last several years, it becomes apparent that the ideals upon which our country is allegedly founded, are all but forgotten, purposefully forsaken, by those whom we entrusted to guard and implement them

We no longer live in an ancient nation, a republic, a society. We are but a vassal state. Our politicians and their respective parties are fronts. Their promises and manifestos, upon which the people elected them, are "hyperbole", by their own admittance, the candour of Pat Rabbit must be admired. It should come as no surprise then that the government seek to sanitize and revise Irish history, in particular at this time, the 1916 rising. Those who would sacrifice the country for their lifestyle, have little interest in the remembering those who sacrificed their lives for their country. The very image of the leaders of 1916 appears to disagree with the pallet of Fine Gael, having it removed from the official centenary leaflet and replaced with images of the Queen and Bob Geldof. The revisionists in power would have a new proclamation, that of "Ireland Inc" as Enda Kenny constantly speaks of.

Not a nation of people, were all the children are cherished equally, but one where our self-determination exists in name alone, we are Europeans first and Irish, only in a punch line, where multi-national corporations plunder our resources with less care or oversight than in tin-pot African dictatorships, where even our water is not safe, when the order comes down to squeeze more money from the Irish people, or should I say "Ireland incorporated". The people of Ireland must take back their democratic prerogative before it is too late, those who forget their past, have no future and this is just as it is planned. So as we approach 2016, reflect upon ideals of those who went before us the suffering they endured, and ask was it worth it ?
