What's the difference between scepticism and cynicism? Cynicism is especially necessary for assessing politics, says Prof James Alexander, as it sits below scepticism, making us question the motives of those who rule us.

Charlie Hebdo

category international | eu | opinion/analysis author Thursday January 08, 2015 15:45author by Crazy Cat Report this post to the editors

Where we are now (8/01/2015)

We lost some very valuable and intellectual people, even if we weren't always in full agreement with their opinions.

The 12 victims of the attack have been identified. They are: Charb – whose real name was Stéphane Charbonnier, 47, artist and publisher of Charlie Hebdo; Cabu – whose real name was Jean Cabut, 76, Charlie Hebdo’s lead cartoonist, who was honoured with the Légion d’honneur, France’s highest civil decoration, in 2005; Georges Wolinski – Tunisian-born artist, 80, who had been drawing cartoons since the 1960s, and worked for Hara-Kiri, a satirical magazine considered a forerunner to Charlie Hebdo; Tignous – whose real name was Bernard Verlhac, 57, was a member of a group of artists called Cartoonists for Peace; Bernard Maris – known as “Uncle Bernard”, 68, was an economist and wrote a regular column for Charlie Hebdo; Philippe Honoré, AKA Honoré, 73, a cartoonist who had worked for Charlie Hebdo since 1992 and the artist who drew the last cartoon tweeted by the weekly only moments before the massacre; Michel Renaud – a former journalist and political staffer who founded a cultural festival who was visiting the Charlie Hebdo offices from Clermont-Ferrard; Mustapha Ourrad – a copy editor for Charlie Hebdo of Algerian descent; Elsa Cayat – Charlie Hebdo analyst and columnist; Frederic Boisseau – building maintenance worker; Franck Brinsolaro – 49-year-old police officer appointed to head security for Charb and father of a one-year-old girl; Ahmed Merabet – 42 and a French Muslim police officer and member of the 11th arrondissement brigade. The Monde Diplomatique issued this statement, which I have translated:

The mass murder perpetrated Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at the headquarters of Charlie Hebdo was to kill journalists and cartoonists for their opinions. It saddens the defenders of freedom of expression and terror seized the whole of French society. The team of Le Monde diplomatique present to the families of the victims and their friends condolences and assure them of its solidarity. The massacre that has been committed contributes to a strategy of tension and fear whose elements are sadly familiar: fanaticisms pseudo-religious, calls for a "clash of civilizations", nibbling on the grounds of public freedomsunder the illusory pretext of ensuring the safety of all and win the "war against terrorism". A crucial battle is engaged. Its challenge the very definition of French fracture lines. Incendiary forces would root in Europe a cleavage between these fractions of the population defined by their origin, their culture, their religion. We will do everything to the contrary so that on the same side of the barricades together all the supporters of an emancipated society, united and joyful, for which the journalists and cartoonists from Charlie Hebdo also fight.

This meme dreamt up by the agents of the deep state for the Paris slaughter by them has now backfired a little as it has inspired a lot of other people to have their own 'Je Suis' phrases which are far more honest.

One of the latest is from the separatists in Eastern Ukraine who are trying to defend their own people from murderous attacks by the US & EU backed Neo Nazi forces installed in Kiev and who are shooting up school buses and shelling their houses, schools and hospitals.

Terms like ''moderate'' and ''extremist'' or indeed ''islamist'' are in no arabic dictionary or in the muslim mindset anywhere in the middle east...

These terms ''moderate'',''extremist'',and ''islamist'',were coined by the media, and ill-informed people latched on to these concepts, and wrongly so.

If you want to learn more about islam - read the quaran, the bukari and the hadiths...

In these books - there are both peaceful and violent verses, interestingly there are more violent verses than peaceful verses, and the more violent verses take precedence over the more benign peaceful verses, abrogation is used in this instance in the quaran if there is some confusion as to what verses should take priority.

There are other terms you should familiarize yourselves with 1.Kitman and 2. Taqquia - this is about decieving the infidel or the kuffar,ie the non believer the non muslim. The second one is how to lie to a westerner/infidel/kuffar.

Whoever gains, people lose. Two things in Le Monde diplomatique's statement caught the eye. 1. "...they died for their opinions." and 2. the murderers are trying to stir up "a clash of civilizations." They were massacred at their workplace for the cartoon manner in which they expressed their attitudes to Muhammad, not for a verbal or literary argument against aspects of islam and its teachings. The "clash of civilizations" term comes from the title of a bestselling book by a US writer, not from islamist fanatics from the Middle East.

Pablo Escobar is entitled to surmise the origins of the plot to massacre the twelve journalists. That's all it is - surmise.
