Its worth pointing out that Roberts is an associate editor of the Wall Street Journal and a former Assistant Secretary of the US Treasury for Economic Policy, so hes hardly a loony leftie. He is however a Democrat in the real meaning of the word. KM 'I dare you to take my gun!' AK-47-toting Ukraine far-right leader Aleksandr Muzychko tells officials Members of President Yanukovich’s ruling party, the Party of Regions, have been shot, had arrest warrants issued for them, have experienced home invasions and physical threats, and are resigning in droves in hopes of saving the lives of themselves and their families. The prosecutor’s office in the Volyn region (western Ukraine) has been ordered by ultra-nationalists to resign en masse .

Jump To Comment: 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1There are always spoils to war and one them in the case of Ukraine was the looting of their gold. It was simply handed over by the psychopathic Nazis in the Ukraine to their US controllers.
It seems last that on March 7th it was flown out:
According to Iskra News:
People are starting to call this the brown revolution
for obvious reasons. Spread the word
Cameron says UK ministers will stay away from sotchi paralympics
because of russian behaviour in Crimea.
Cameron backs fascist coup in Ukraine, then when Russia reacts to US/UK/EU treachery, Cameron punishes disabled people.
What a scumbag!
No doubt our own lapdogs will be making statements supporting the fascist coup too.
Yanukovich was a corrupt greedy scumbag feathering his own nest, but they could have easily gotten rid of him next election without handing power over to fascists threatening to build nuclear weapons within 6 months.
The endgame is likely, as Pepe Escobar suggests:
http://www.atimes.com/atimes/Central_Asia/CEN-05-280214....html
so this is likely about Syria as well as Ukraine
A huge humanitarian crisis is now looming as a result of the consequence of the US & EU backed neo Nazi coup in Kiev as it is reported that up to 675,000 Ukrainians have fled to Russia for their safety since January. You can be sure that most of these people were terrified that in the days and weeks ahead that there would be mass attacks and killings.
Also earlier the chief of the Ukrainian Navy has sided with the Crimean region as Crimea forms its own Navy
An Russia activists who was in Kiev has claimed that the riots were manned with numerous foreigners and he claimed they consisted of Americans, Germans, Poles and others.
The hotheads in Kiev are convinced Russia troops have taken over positions in the Crimea even though the Russian diplomats and the military had to refute media speculation and explain that the armed people at the Crimean airports in Simferopol and Sevastopol weren’t Russian troops.
“There are no troops whatsoever. No Russian troops, at least… Some civilians claiming to be representing groups of ‘self-defense of Crimea’ arrived at Simferopol airport overnight, but they retreated and nothing happened,” Russian ambassador to the EU, Vladimir Chizhov, told Euronews.
Despite this the US & EU backed neo Nazis in Kiev have threatened Russia that if they don't tread carefully they will be dealing with a nuclear power. After the dissolution of the USSR, Ukraine gave up it's nuclear weapon status after agreement from the USA that they would not advance NATO further east -a promise which they have since broken many times.
MP Mikhail Golovko of the ultra-nationalist right wing pary Svoboda said.
We’ll regain our status as a nuclear power and that’ll change the conversation. Ukraine has all the technological means needed to create a nuclear arsenal – which would take us about three to six months,”
It is difficult to tell whether they got the all-clear from the controllers in the US & EU to make this statement but it is a measure of the craven efforts of the US & EU to advance further east and destroy the country. Threats like these are terrorism on a grand scale which is defined as terrorizing a mass population for political ends.
A leader of the Ukrainian radical group Pravy Sektor (Right Sector), Dmitry Yarosh, has called on Russia’s most wanted terrorist Doku Umarov to act against Russia in an address posted on Right Sector’s page in VKontakte social network.
The statement points out that “many Ukrainians with arms in the hands” supported Chechen militants in their fight against Russians and “it is time to support Ukraine now.”
The message, signed “leader of Right Sector Dmitry Yarosh” then calls on Umarov “to activate his fight” and “take a unique chance to win” over Russia.
Umarov, who commanded groups of militants in both Chechen wars and organized several large terror acts, is the most wanted terrorist in Russia. Umarov has claimed responsibility for several attacks on Russian civilians, including the 2010 Moscow Metro bombings and the 2011 Domodedovo International Airport bombing, which killed dozens of people and injured hundreds.
In March 2011, Umarov was put on the UN Security Council’s Al-Qaeda and Taliban Sanctions Committee list of individuals. The US government has also announced a $5 million reward for information leading to the terrorist leader’s capture.

The City Council in the eastern city of Donetsk has refused to recognize Ukraine’s self-imposed government and called for a referendum on the region’s status. The council has made Russian alongside Ukrainian the official language in the region.
“Until all the legitimacy of the new laws approved by Verkhovna Rada [Ukrainian Parliament] is clarified, the City Council [of Donetsk] will take full responsibility for its territories,” said the document approved by Donetsk City Council during the special session of March, 1. The report comes from Ukraine-based Zerkalo Nedeli newspaper.
Donetsk is the capital of the coal-rich Donbass region in eastern Ukraine. Beside Donetsk, a major economic, industrial and scientific center, Donbass includes Lughansk and Dnepropetrovsk regions.
The Council called for a referendum on Donbass’s future, urging the local parliament to set the date immediately. The move is set to “protect the citizens from possible violent actions on the behalf of radicalized nationalistic forces,” the council said in a statement.
In addition, the members of the city council have voted to set up self-defense squads.
Russian language has been re-introduced as an official language along with Ukrainian in the area where a plurality of its residents are ethnic Russians (48.15%) and Russian-speaking Ukrainians (46.65%). This decision came after the new power in Kiev abolished the minority languages law.
There have been swift developments since the US & EU backed Neo Nazi coup on Thurs 27th Feb.
The thugs who took over declared the Russian language was to be no longer the language of Ukraine. Threats were made by AK-47 toting "democrats" who EU representatives declared a while back that they could work with these people as they were no threat, despite the fact that they have killed several policeman and beaten others to death. The chief Rabbi of Kiev has already advised all Jews to leave the city for their own safety.
The Russian speaking half of the Ukraine has rightly recognised the direct threat these Neo Nazis represent and over the weekend the population in the south of the country in Crimea have raised the Russian flag over the parliament and asked Russia for protection. They have declared the so-called government in Kiev illegal and do not recognised it. On March 27th they will hold a referendum of autonomy.
Likewise in the Eastern and Southern cities of Donetsk, Kharkov, Lugansk, Dnepropetrovsk, Melitopol, Mariupol, Odessa, Kerch, Yevpatoria, Simferopol and Sevastopol have already raised the Russia flag over government buildings. In each of these areas armed local militias have formed to protect the local citizens from the far-right thugs in Kiev who will likely try to exert their control.
From RT http://rt.com/news/donetsk-kharkov-ukraine-protest-365/
In Kharkov, the largest city in eastern Ukraine, pro-Russian protesters managed to break through the cordon of Maidan supporters and captured the government building. The storming was accompanied by clashes and shooting, RBC daily reported.
Some 111 people have been injured in clashes between anti- and pro-Maidan demonstrators, reported Itar-Tass, citing the city’s mayor, Gennady Kernes.
At least 10 explosions were heard, both in the building and in the area around it. At least one policeman was among those hurt in the clashes, according to Itar-Tass.
One of the demonstrators got on to the roof of the administration building, waving the Russian flag. Meanwhile, pro-Maidan activists, who barricaded themselves inside one of the offices, are hanging a white flag out of the window. Police were accompanying injured supporters of the new government out of the building to ambulances, Unian agency reports.
Activists from Right Sector radical group, who were inside the building, “were throwing explosives, perhaps even grenades, into public transport,” Kharkov Mayor Kernes told journalists. “They also opened fire at protesters,” he added and showed a cartridge for a Kalashnikov assault-rifle which was found inside the building. According to the mayor, “120 cocktail bombs, two mines and drugs” were discovered at the site.
And just today there are reports of mass resigning of the Ukrainian army in the Crimea region as they switch to the side of the local Russia speaking population. Again from RT: http://rt.com/news/ukraine-military-russia-resign-437/
Since Thursday, the city’s Supreme Council and a number of other buildings have been occupied and guarded by the self-defense forces run by the local population.
Crimea’s deputy prime minister, Rustam Temirgaliev, announced earlier that the Ukrainian armed forces have all but surrendered their military capabilities and that no active units remain in the Crimea
In the last 2 weeks, over 140,000 Ukrainians have requested asylum in Russia.
There is a slight divergence in the aims of the US and EU over the Ukraine. As reported on WSWS, quoting from the memoirs of former US Secretary of Defense Robert Gates http://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2014/02/27/geop-f27.html
“When the Soviet Union was collapsing in late 1991, Dick wanted to see the dismantlement not only of the Soviet Union and the Russian empire but of Russia itself, so it could never again be a threat to the rest of the world,” wrote former US Secretary of Defense Robert Gates in his recently published memoirs. Gates was referring to the then-Secretary of Defense, and later US Vice President, Dick Cheney.
The means to do this would be either to smash Ukraine in half which is definitely on the cards now and or get into to join NATO and then proceed further with Russia organising multiple uprisings with the end result that Russia dis-integrates into dozens of statelets each run by a western backed puppet. The results would of course been catastrophic for ordinary people not just in former Russia but worldwide as there would then be nothing capable of challenging the totalitarian system of US capitalism with the EU as the very junior partner.
Meanwhile the Germans would like to use Ukraine as a cheap labour colony as wages are now lower there than in China. One should not forget that Germany already occupied Ukraine twice, in 1918 and 1941. The second occupation was not particularly pleasant with many eliminated by SS squads. The people who collaborated with the Nazis then mostly from Western Ukraine come from the same areas and families as the various neo Nazi groups who have now sized power in Kiev.

Ukraine’s Navy flagship, the Hetman Sahaidachny frigate, has reportedly refused to follow orders from Kiev, and come over to Russia’s side and is returning home after taking part in NATO operation in the Gulf of Aden flying the Russian naval flag.
There has been conflicting information on where exactly the vessel is, but a Russian senator has confirmed to Izvestia daily that the frigate defected to the Russian side.
“Ukraine’s Navy flagship the Hetman Sahaidachny has come over to our side today. It has hung out the St Andrew’s flag,” Senator Igor Morozov, a member of the committee on the international affairs, told Izvestia daily.
He said the flagship is on its way back to the Black Sea after drills in the Mediterranean. “The crew has fulfilled the order by the chief commander of Ukraine’s armed forces Viktor Yanukovich,” he added.
