Israeli Apartheid Week is an annual international series of events held across the globe. The aim is to educate people about the nature of Israeli apartheid against the Palestinian people and to build the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement locally and globally. Last year, IAW took place in over 60 cities across the globe and this year the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign (http://www.ipsc.ie) is proud to again host a series of events in Ireland.

IAW 2012 takes place following three years of incredible successes for the BDS movement on the global level. Lectures, films, and actions will highlight the many injustices that continue to make BDS so crucial in the struggle against apartheid and for justice, equality, and peace.

Below you will find a full listing of events taking place around Ireland during this year's IAW - some organised by the IPSC, some organised by others. We hope you will be able to make it along to some of them.

Please note that due to circumstances beyond our control, we have had to cancel the speaking tour by Iyad Burnat. In Dublin, we have organised a replacement event that we hope will be of interest to you.

***Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, we have had to cancel the talk by Bil’in Organiser Iyad Burnat on non-violent resistance to Israeli Apartheid. We have instead organised the following another event which we hope will interest you:***

As part of Israeli Apartheid Week 2012, the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign is honoured to host the Irish Première screening of the new acclaimed film "Roadmap to Apartheid", to be followed by a Question and Answer session with Huwiada Arraf and Adam Shapiro two of the founders of the International Solidarity Movement, who will discuss non-violent resistance to Israeli Apartheid.

The event will take place at 7pm on Thursday 23rd February 2012, in the Cassidy's Hotel, Cavendish Row, Parnell Square, Dublin 1.

About Huwaida and Adam:

Huwaida Arraf (born 1976) is an American Palestinian Christian human rights activist, lawyer and co-founder of the International Solidarity Movement (ISM), a Palestinian-led organization focused on assisting the Palestinian side of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict using non-violent protests. Her law practice is based in Ramallah.

Adam Shapiro (born 1972) is an American human rights activist and film-maker, and is co-founder of the International Solidarity Movement (ISM), a pro-Palestinian organization, the stated mission of which is to bring civilians from around the world to resist nonviolently the Israeli occupation of West Bank and previously the Gaza Strip.

About Roadmap to Apartheid:

Narrated by Alice Walker.
Runtime: 90mins.
Genre: Documentary.

There are many lessons to draw from the South African experience of Apartheid relevant to conflicts all over the world. Roadmap to Apartheid explores in detail the apartheid comparison as it is used in the enduring Israel-Palestine conflict. As much an historical document of the rise and fall of apartheid, the film shows us why many Palestinians feel they are living in an apartheid system today, and why an increasing number of people around the world agree with them.

Featuring interviews with South Africans, Israelis and Palestinians, Roadmap to Apartheid winds its way through the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and inside Israel moving from town to town and issue to issue to show why the apartheid analogy is being used with increasing potency. It analyzes the similar historical narratives of the Jewish people and the Afrikaaners to the tight relationship the two governments shared during the apartheid years, and everything in between. The effectiveness of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement that helped end apartheid in South Africa is also compared to its effectiveness in the Israeli context to end the occupation, and bring justice and dignity to all.

About the Film-makers

Ana Nogueira is a journalist and film maker. She worked as a producer for the national daily radio and TV news program Democracy Now! in the United States for four years and later as a correspondent for the show. She is also a founding member of the New York City Independent Media Center and the global Indymedia network which was a pioneer in citizen-produced journalism. Nogueira was born in South Africa.

Eron Davidson is a long-time media activist and film maker. He has produced several short videos that have helped to galvanize excitement for various community organizing projects in the United States. Davidson was born in Israel.

This event is organised by the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) as one of a series of events taking place around Ireland during international Israeli Apartheid Week 2012 (20 – 27 February).
